4 PacWest teams in line for berths in NCAA II National
Softball Championship
PHOENIX, AZ – With the NCAA Division II Softball Championship selection show looming in the coming days, the Pacific West Conference is in terrific shape to land four teams in the national tournament.
The PacWest maintained four teams in the Top 8 of the recent NCAA Division II West Region Softball Rankings, keeping the conference in line for earning four berths in the national championship tournament.
Hawai‘i Pacific remains the number one team in the West Region, while Grand Canyon slipped to third. Hawai‘i Hilo is ranked fifth and Dixie State remained in the all-important seventh position.
With just the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championship to be settled, there is a strong probability that the PacWest will claim half of the slots in the West Region tournament. And if the seeding remains at 1, 3, 5, 7 for the four PacWest teams, no conference school will meet until at least the second round.
The top eight teams in each region are selected to the NCAA II National Championship Tournament. The selections will be announced at 10 a.m. (EDT) on Monday, May 10 via a webcast at NCAA.com.
The West Region will consist of two four-team sub-regionals at locations to be determined. HPU and Sonoma State are the leading candidates to host the sub-regionals.
The NCAA Division II Softball Committee released its weekly rankings on Wednesday, May 5, from its office in Indianapolis. The records are through May 2 and reflect each team’s overall Division II mark and its record in the West Region.
