BYU-Hawaii grabs PacWest automatic berth in NCAA II Tournament, clinches share of title

HONOLULU, HI – On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the BYU-Hawaii volleyball team clinched a share of the Pacific West Conference Championship with a 3-0 victory over Dominican (CA) in Laie, HI.

On Thursday evening, Nov. 3, while the Seasiders were studying, sleeping or catching up on the day’s events with friends, Academy of Art pulled off a 3-2 victory at Hawai‘i Pacific, giving BYU-Hawaii the PacWest Conference’s automatic berth in the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.

Although Grand Canyon can still catch the Seasiders for a share of the conference title, BYU-Hawaii swept the Antelopes early in the season and owns the tiebreaker for the AQ.

For Grand Canyon to catch BYU-Hawaii, the Antelopes would need to win their two remaining contests while the Seasiders would have to lose all three remaining matches on their schedule. A GCU loss or a BYU-Hawaii win gives the Seasiders sole possession of the 2011 PacWest Championship.

Grand Canyon visits Dixie State on Nov. 5 and hosts Dixie State on Nov. 12 to close out the regular season. BYU-Hawaii hosts Academy of Art on Nov. 4 and visits Chaminade on Nov. 9 and HPU on Nov. 12.
