California Baptist draws top seed at 2011 NCCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship

RIVERSIDE, CA - The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) released the bracket for the 2011 NCCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship on Sunday night, Nov. 20, and California Baptist University has drawn the No. 1 seed.

The Lancers finished the regular season 20-10, defeating The Master’s 3-0 in the NCCAA West Regional to advance to the championship.

CBU owns the top overall spot and are the highest seed in Pool A for the tournament. Palm Beach Atlantic is the No. 2 overall seed and the top seed in Pool B.

Pool play for the NCCAA Championship begins Dec. 1 with each team playing four matches over the first two days. The event will be held at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Lancers face the No. 9-seed Colorado Christian at 12 p.m. (EST) to open the tournament and then take on No. 5 Grace College at 6:30 p.m. (EST). On Dec. 2 CBU faces No. 8-seed Southwest Assemblies of God at 10 a.m. (EST) and finally wraps up pool play against No. 4 Malone at 4 p.m. (EST).

The top two teams in each pool move on to the bracket play Dec. 3.

Established in 1968 and based in Greenville, S.C., the NCCAA hosts 23 national championships and invitationals for its more than 100 Christian college and university members across the country.

It was incorporated to provide a Christian-based organization that functions uniquely as a national agency for the promotion of outreach and ministry and the maintenance and promotion of intercollegiate athletic competition with a Christian perspective.

CBU had previously been NCCAA members from 1972-87 before rejoining the association prior to this season.
