INDIANAPOLIS, IN – BYU-Hawaii, Hawai‘i Hilo
and Grand Canyon will continue their seasons in Southern California
when the three Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball
teams converge on Cal State San Bernardino for the NCAA II West
Region Tournament.
It marked the first time in PacWest women’s volleyball history that three teams were afforded berths in the NCAA Division II National Championship.
All three teams will be in action on Thursday, Nov. 17, in San Bernardino, CA, for the West Region Quarterfinals.
The semifinals will take place on Friday with the West Region title match set for Saturday. Match times are still to be announced.
BYU-Hawaii, which earned the automatic berth for claiming the
PacWest Championship, enters the tournament as the #4 seed. The
Seasiders will square off against #5 Seattle Pacific in the
regional quarterfinals.
If BYU-Hawaii wins, the Seasiders then will take on host and unbeaten #1 seed Cal State San Bernardino or #8 Alaska Anchorage. BYU-Hawaii beat Alaska Anchorage 3-0 in the season opener on Aug. 26.
The Seasiders are 18-3 overall this season and currently own a 15-match winning streak. BYU-Hawaii finished the year 15-1 in PacWest Conference action.
Hawai‘i Hilo enters the bracket as the #6 seed after finishing the year 15-6 overall and 11-5 in the PacWest. The Vulcans will take on 21-6 Sonoma State on Thursday.
If they survive the opening round, the Vulcans will battle PacWest
foe Grand Canyon – the 8th seed – or #2 seed
UC San Diego (21-5). Hawai‘i Hilo swept Grand Canyon in two
conference battles this season.
Grand Canyon enters the NCAA II Tournament with a 14-match winning streak, a 22-6 overall record, and a 12-4 mark in the PacWest.
