4 PacWest teams land in latest NCAA II West Region Volleyball Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A quartet of Pacific West Conference women’s volleyball teams have positioned themselves to make a run at an NCAA Division II post-season berth.

BYU-Hawaii, Hawai‘i Pacific, Hawai‘i Hilo and Grand Canyon are ranked in the Top 10 of the latest NCAA Division II West Region Poll. The NCAA released the rankings on Wednesday, Oct. 26, from its offices in Indianapolis.

The Seasiders grabbed the highest spot on the chart with a 12-1 regional record and a 13-3 overall mark. BYU-Hawaii is ranked second behind Cal State San Bernardino and just ahead of third-place Seattle Pacific. The Seasiders are currently riding a 10-match winning streak.

The Top 8 selections in the region will earn a berth in the NCAA II Championship Tournament come November; however, conferences in the West Region owning automatic qualifiers will have an impact on the selection process.

The Seasiders, who lead the PacWest with a 10-1 league mark, have not played this week and will resume their possible march toward a conference title on Oct. 31 against Academy of Art at home. The Seasiders need to win two of their final five matches to clinch at least a share of the PacWest title, and three of their final five contests to seal up sole possession of first place and the automatic bid to the NCAAs.

Hawai‘i Pacific, who hung the lone loss on the Seasiders this year, is ranked sixth in the region with identical 11-8 regional and overall records. The Sea Warriors swept a pair of road contests at Dixie State this week and are now 8-4 in the conference and 13-8 overall – and in-region.

Hawai‘i Hilo is 11-6 overall and 7-5 in the PacWest and sits eighth in the region. The Vulcans are coming off four tough losses but have a chance to make a late post-season run by playing three of their final four matches at home.

Grand Canyon, who slides in at #10 in the region, is now 18-6 overall and 9-4 in the PacWest. The Antelopes are surfing a 10-match winning streak as the season winds down and are one of the hottest clubs in the West.
