BYU-Hawaii rookie Shih Ting Chen collects latest PacWest Volleyball Player of Week honor

Shih Ting Chen PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii freshman middle blocker Shih Ting Chen (Yunlin, Taiwan/Chung Shan) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Nov. 7, for matches contested Oct. 31-Nov. 6.

Chen led the Seasiders to a 3-0 week and the PacWest Championship by hitting .379 and averaging 5.11 kills per set.

She ranked sixth in hitting in the league for the week, recording 46 kills in 103 attempts with just seven errors.

Chen also ranked second in kills per set, and finished the week 10th in digs per set (3.33) after totaling 30 in nine sets.

For the week, she amassed 49.5 points on her 46 kills, one ace and five block assists, averaging 5.50 points per set to stand second in the PacWest.

Caelen Hiller Melissa Cheng - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-10, S, Sunnyvale, CA/Homestead)...helped Urban Knights to a 2-3 week by averaging 10.00 assists per set...ranked fourth in assists per set for the week in the league...totaled 180 assists over five matches and 18 sets.

Ying Chun Chen - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., 5-7, S, Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Chung Shan)...led Seasiders to a 3-0 week by averaging 13.11 assists per set...ranked first in the league in assist average...totaled 188 assists in three matches and nine sets.

Lauren Hagemeyer - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-1, OH, Ridgway, CO/Ridgway)...helped the Seasiders claim the 2011 PacWest title and a berth in the NCAA’s with a 3-0 week...ranked sixth for the week in scoring in the PacWest...averaged 3.89 points per set...rolled up 32 kills and six block assists for 35 points...ranked fifth in kills per set (3.56) for the week in the PacWest.

Caelen Hiller - Grand Canyon (So., 5-11, OH, Phoenix, AZ/Sunnyslope)...helped GCU to 2-0 week by averaging 3.75 points and 3.50 kills per set...ranked eighth in scoring for the week in the PacWest...totaled 22.5 points in six sets on 21 kills, an ace and a block assist...tied for sixth in kills per set with  (3.50).

Hillary Hurley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-2, MB, Anderson, CA/Enterprise)...led Vulcans to a 2-0 week by averaging 6.92 points per set - tops in the PacWest for the week...totaled 41.5 points on 35 kills, three aces, one block solo and five block assists...ranked 10th in the league for the week in hitting (.329)...had 35 kills with just 10 errors in 76 attempts over six sets...led the PacWest in kills per set for the week (5.83)...tied for fifth in aces per set (0.50)...tied for fifth in blocks per set (1.00) for the week.

Leinani Keanini - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-7, OH, Kailua, HI/Iolani)...helped Art U to a 2-3 week by averaging 3.78 points per set...ranked seventh in the PacWest in scoring for the week...totaled 68 points on 63 kills, four aces and a pair of block solos...tied for sixth in kills per set (3.50) for the week in the PacWest...excellent on defense with 76 digs in 18 sets...averaged 4.22 digs per set - good enough for fifth in the PacWest for the week.

Kyra Pelayo Olivia Lane - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., 6-1, MB, Rocklin, CA/Rocklin)...helped lead the Vulcans to a 2-0 week...ranked third in the PacWest in hitting with a .455 percentage...had 27 kills with seven errors in 44 attempts...ranked fourth for the week in kills per set (4.50)...tied for fifth in blocks per set (1.00) for the week...tied for third in scoring average (5.00 points per set)...totaled 30 points on 27 kills and six block assists.

Stephanie McBride - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-11, MH, Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park)...helped GCU to 2-0 week by lead the PacWest in hitting for the week with a .533 average...ranked eighth in kills per set (3.17) for the week...ranked fourth in points per set (4.17) for the week in the PacWest...totaled 25 points on 19 kills, two aces, two block solos and four block assists...tied for fifth in blocks per set (1.00) for the week.

Kyra Pelayo - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-3, DS, San Jose, CA/Saint Francis)...helped HPU to a 2-1 week...led PacWest in digs per set (6.50) for the week...totaled 78 digs in a dozen sets.

Kristen Preach - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-10, S, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)...helped Antelopes to a 2-0 record during the week...ranked second in the league in assists per set (12.20)...totaled 61 assists in five sets - sixth in the PacWest for the week.
