Dixie State freshman Deanna Daniels earns PacWest honor

PHOENIX, AZ - Dixie State freshman forward Deanna Daniels (North Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) has been named the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 4, for games contested Dec. 28-Jan. 3.

Daniels scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds in a 73-53 shellacking of Mesa (CO) State on Jan. 2 - the Red Storm's lone game of the week.

She led the conference in scoring and rebounding for the week and ranked third in shooting after making 10 of 14 (71.4%) attempts from the floor.

Johnna Brown - Dixie State (Fr., 6-0, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...scored 16 points and collected five rebounds in 73-53 win over Mesa State on Jan. 2...lone game of the week for the Red Storm...ranked second in field goal percentage (75.0%) after making 6 of 8 from the field...tied for sixth in rebounding average and tied for fifth in scoring average for the week in the PacWest...added three steals in the victory.

Tanya Clark - Dixie State (Sr., 5-10, F, Beaumont, CA/Beaumont)...scored 12 points, cradled seven rebounds and recorded five steals in 73-53 win over Mesa State on Jan. 2...lone game of the week for the Red Storm...tied for fourth in field goal percentage (60.0%) after making 6 of 10 from the field...ranked 10th in scoring, second in rebounding, and second in steals for the week in the PacWest...also had two assists in the win.

Alisha Flaaten (right) - Dominican (CA) (Sr., 5-6, G, Hayward, CA/Moreau Catholic)...ranked third in scoring average in the PacWest during the week after averaging 18.5 points per game over two contests...ranked eighth in assist average (2.5), eighth in foul shooting (77.8% / 7 for 9), and second in three-pointers made per game (3.0).

Richelle Fenebock - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-6, G, Coeur d'Alene, ID/Lake City)...tallied 17 points in lone game of the week - a 73-57 loss vs. West Texas A&M on Dec. 30...ranked fourth in scoring in the PacWest for the week...also handed out two assists and recorded three steals....led the league in three-pointers made per game for the week (4.0).

Mahina Gago - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., G, 5-9, Las Vegas, NV/Bonanza)...posted 15 points in lone game of the week - a 73-57 loss vs. West Texas A&M on Dec. 30...ranked seventh in scoring in the PacWest for the week...also had three rebounds, two steals, two assists, a three-pointer and a blocked shot...made 4 of 5 (80.0%) from the line.

Ashley Hardin (left) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-10, F, Chandler, AZ/Marcos de Niza)...averaged 11.3 points and 4.3 rebounds per game...ranked 11th in scoring and tied for 10th in rebounding for the week in the conference...Antelopes went 1-2 during the week...shot 44.4% (12 for 27) from the floor (10th)...was ninth in foul shooting for the week (76.9%)...made 10 of 13 attempts from the charity stripe.

Mana Hopkins - Hawai‘i Pacific (So., 5-10, F, Kona, HI/Konawaena)...scored 19 points and shot 60.0% (9 for 15) from the floor in HPU's lone game of the week - a tough 92-79 loss vs. West Texas A&M...ranked second in scoring and tied for fourth in shooting for the week in the PacWest...also doled out two assists and had two steals in the game.

Samantha Murphy - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)...averaged 13.3 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-2 week for the Antelopes...ranked eighth in scoring for the week...averaged 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game...was outstanding from the line, making 19 of 20 attempts (95.0%)...made five three-pointers.

Kayci Will - Chaminade (So., 6-1, C, Neoga, IL/Neoga)...averaged 10.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game despite an 0-3 week for the Silverswords...shot 45.5% (10 for 22) from the floor (tied for 8th in the PacWest for the week).
