Grand Canyon senior guard Samantha Murphy claims another PacWest Player of Week honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon senior guard
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)
has been named the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 31, for games contested Jan. 24-30.
Murphy led the Antelopes to a 2-0 week by averaging 32.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She led the league in scoring, tied for ninth in rebounding, tied for seventh in assist average and tied for fifth in steals per game for the week.
Murphy also shot 56.4% (22 for 39) from the floor and 84.2% (16 for 19) from the line. She ranked ninth in foul shooting in the PacWest for the week and tied for eighth in three-point shooting (45.5%) after making 5 of 11 attempts from beyond the arc. She avearged 2.5 three-pointers made per game to rank third in the conference during the week.
PacWest Women’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Tammy Brawner - Dominican (CA) (Gr., 5-6, G, Oakland,
CA/Skyline)...led the Penguins to a 2-0 week,
including an upset of Hawai‘i Pacific who entered the game
atop the PacWest standings at 7-0...averaged 18.0 points while
shooting 63.2% (12 for 19) from the floor...ranked seventh in
shooting and tied for second in scoring in the PacWest for the
week...hit 11 of 12 free throw attempts (91.7%)...ranked fourth in
foul shooting for the week.
Johnna Brown - Dixie State (So., 6-0, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Red Storm...led the PacWest in rebounding and ranked fifth in shooting for the week...shot 62.5% (10 for 16) from the floor to stand eighth in field goal percentage for the week...also tied for seventh in assists per game (4.0) and ranked second in steals per game (4.5)...shot 81.3% (13 for 16) from the line.
Courtney Buster - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 6-3, C, San Francisco, CA/International Studies Academy)...had 10.3 rebounds, 9.7 points and 1.3 blocks per game in a 2-1 week for the Sea Warriors...ranked second in rebounding and tied for second in blocks per game for the week in the conference.
Erica Carlson - Dixie State (Fr., 6-4, C, Tucson, AZ/Canyon del
Oro)...helped the Red Storm to a 2-0 week by
averaging 9.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 6.5 blocks per
game...a monster on defense between her blocked shots and her 6.5
defensive boards per contest...ranked fifth in rebounding, first in
blocked shots per game and 10th in assist average in the PacWest
for the week...ranked third in assist/turnover ratio (7.0).
Breann Hill - Dixie State (Sr., 5-10, F, Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt)...led the Red Storm to a 2-0 week by averaging 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game...shot 66.7% (12 for 18) from the field and was 10 for 11 (90.9%) from the foul line...tied for fifth in foul shooting and in steals per game for the week in the PacWest...tied for second in scoring and ranked sixth in shooting for the week...ranked seventh in assist/turnover ratio (2.0) for the week.
Hillary Hurley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-2, F, Anderson, CA/Enterprise)...ranked sixth in scoring and third in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...averaged 16.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in a 1-2 week for the Vulcans...shot 58.3% (21 for 36) from the field.
Rosalyn Nelson - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley)...averaged 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 6.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Antelopes...led the PacWest in steals per game and tied for first in assists per game for the week...tied for second in scoring and ranked fifth in shooting (68.4% - 13 for 19) for the week...tied for 10th in foul shooting for the week in the conference after making 10 of 12 (83.3%) attempts from the line...owned top assist/turnover (12.0) ratio in the conference for the week.
Jessica Nolan - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-11, F, Adelaide,
Australia/Hallet Cove School)...averaged 13.5 points
and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Urban
Knights...tied for ninth in scoring and tied for sixth in
collecting rebounds for the week in the PacWest...averaged 4.5
assists while shooting 58.8% (10 for 17) from the floor...tied for
11th in shooting and tied four fourth in assist average for the
week.
Verity Peets - Academy of Art (Sr., 6-0, F, Stockport, England/Stockport)...averaged 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Urban Knights in a 1-1 week...tied for ninth in scoring and ranked eighth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Emily Vore - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-0, C, San Bernardino, CA/Redlands)...averaged 15.0 points per game in a 0-2 week for the Argos...shot 88.9% (8 for 9) from the line...ranked seventh for the week in the PacWest.
