GCU's Murphy selected final PacWest Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for 2010-11
PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon senior guard
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)
has been selected the final Pacific West Conference Women’s
Basketball Player of the Week of the 2010-11 campaign.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Wednesday, March 16, for games contested during the NCAA II West Regional March 11-14.
Murphy led the Antelopes to the regional title game by averaging 21.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She shot 88.2% (15 for 17) from the line and hit eight three-pointers during the three days.
It marked the first appearance in the West Region Championship by the Antelopes, who set a school record with 29 victories this season. Grand Canyon lost in the finale 68-61 to Cal Poly Pomona, snapping its 17-game winning streak.

UT/Layton)...scored 15 points while shooting 55.6% (5
for 9) from the field in 68-59 defeat vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay on
March 11...loss came in the quarterfinals of the NCAA II West
Regional in Pomona, CA...shot 50.0% (4 for 8) from beyond the
arc.
Johnna Brown - Dixie State (So., 6-0, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds while shooting 53.8% (7 for 13) from the floor in 68-59 defeat vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay on March 11...loss came in the quarterfinals of the NCAA II West Regional in Pomona, CA...shot 75.0% (3 for 4) from beyond the arc...also blocked a shot.
Jallisa Butler - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-1, C/F, Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron)...averaged 9.3 points and 13.7 rebounds per game as the Antelopes posted a 2-1 mark in the NCAA II West Region Tournament...reached the finals where they lost to Cal Poly Pomona 68-61 on March 14...shot 48.0% (12 for 25) from the field.
Erica Carlson - Dixie State (Sr., 6-4, C, Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro)...scored seven points, snared eight rebounds and blocked three shots vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay in 68-59 loss on March 11...defeat came in the quarterfinals of the NCAA II West Regional in Pomona, CA.
Joslynn Frazier - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-0, C, Sacramento,
CA/Burbank)...saw just nine minutes of action in
Division II West Region title game, but made the most of the
minutes...pulled down eight rebounds, including six on the
offensive end...also contributed four points...Antelopes lost 68-61
to Cal Poly Pomona on March 14.
Breann Hill - Dixie State (Sr., 5-10, F, Harrisburg, PA/McDevitt)...accumulated 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and three assists in 68-59 loss vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay on March 11...setback came in the quarterfinals of the NCAA II West Regional in Pomona, CA...hit lone three-point attempt.
Stevie Kamp - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-11, F, Mesa, AZ/Mountain View)...averaged 4.0 rebounds per game during the NCAA II West Region Tournament...totaled 12 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive glass.
Rosalyn Nelson - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/Deer Valley)...posted a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio while averaging 3.3 helpers per game in a 2-1 week for the Antelopes...led Grand Canyon to the NCAA II West Region Championship where Antelopes lost 68-61 to Cal Poly Pomona on March 14...averaged 2.0 steals, 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 points per game in the tourney.
Maylinn Smith - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-9, G/F, Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite)...averaged 15.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game as the Antelopes posted a 2-1 mark in the NCAA II West Region Tournament...reached the finals where they lost to Cal Poly Pomona 68-61 on March 14...shot 84.2% (16 for 19) from the line...also averaged 1.3 steals and 1.0 assists per game.
Shanae Vaifanua - Dixie State (Jr., 5-8, G, Hurricane, UT/Hurricane)...scored eight points while shooting 50.0% (3 for 6) from the field vs. Cal St. Monterey Bay in 68-59 loss on March 11...defeat came in the quarterfinals of the NCAA II West Regional in Pomona, CA...was 2 for 2 from the line.
