HPU's Jazzmin Awa-Williams named PacWest Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific senior forward
Jazzmin Awa-Williams (Kona, HI/Konawaena)
has been named the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 17, for games contested Jan. 10-16.
Awa-Williams led the Sea Warriors to a 4-0 week by averaging 15.0 points, 2.3 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
She tied for sixth in scoring for the week in the PacWest, while her outstanding shooting landed her third in the conference.
She shot 63.6% from the field after making 21 of 33 attempts from the floor. She also was outstanding from the line, making 18 of 19 (94.7%) free throw attempts.
PacWest Women’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Jordan Ahakuelo - Chaminade (Fr., 5-5, G, Pearl City, HI/Pearl
City)...led the Silverswords to a 63-51 win over
Dominican (CA) on Jan. 10 by scoring 16 points and grabbing 10
rebounds...also had four assists and six steals.
Nicole DeRosier - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-9, G, Puyallup, WA/Governor John R. Rogers)...averaged 15.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Urban Knights...went 5 for 5 from the line and averaged 3.5 three-pointers made per game.
Mana Hopkins-Vandenakker - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-10, F, Kona, HI/Konawaena)...helped lead the Sea Warriors to a 4-0 week in conference play by averaging 13.0 points and 2.8 assists per game...shot 72.7% from the line after making 16 of 22 foul shots.
Hillary Hurley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Jr., 6-2, F, Anderson, CA/Enterprise)...posted a double-double in 56-45 loss vs. Hawai‘i Pacific on Jan. 16...shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the floor...ranked second in shooting in the PacWest for the week.
Jessica Nolan - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-11, F, Adelaide,
Australia/Hallet Cove School)...in a 1-1 week for the
Urban Knights, averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per
game...ranked 10th in scoring and second in rebounding for the week
in the PacWest...led the league in shooting for the week with an
84.6% (11 for 13) rate...also tied for eighth in assists per game
(3.0) and tied for 11th in steals per game (2.5)...led PacWest in
blocks per game (2.0) for the week.
Verity Peets - Academy of Art (Sr., 6-0, F, Stockport, England/Stockport)...averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game for the Urban Knights in a 1-1 weekend...tied for sixth in scoring and tied for seventh in shooting (50.0% - 11 for 22) in the conference for the week...hit 8 of 12 free throw attempts (66.7%).
Rachael Rickard - Chaminade (Sr., 5-5, G, Coeur d’Alene, ID/Lake City)...scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 63-51 win over Dominican (CA) on Jan. 10...hit 3 of 7 (42.9%) three-point attempts...also had three steals.
Richelle Rieben - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-5, G, Coeur d’Alene,
ID/Lake City)...averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 steals and
5.0 assists per game in a 0-2 week for the Seasiders...ranked
second in scoring, fourth in assist average and second in steals
per game in the PacWest for the week...hit 9 of 24 three-point
attempts (37.5%)...led the league in three-pointers made per game
(4.5) for the week.
Katie Zasley - Notre Dame de Namur (Sr., 5-9, G, Foster City, CA/Aragon)...scored 22 points, doled out four assists and registered two steals in 74-66 loss at Hawai‘i Pacific on Jan. 10...hit 4 of 5 free throw attempts (80.0%) and made two three-pointers...made 8 of 17 (47.1%) shots from the floor.
Laura Zasley - Notre Dame de Namur (Sr., 5-9, G, Foster City, CA/Aragon)...scored 18 points, pulled down six rebounds and recorded three steals in 74-66 loss at Hawai‘i Pacific on Jan. 10...hit 6 of 7 free throw attempts (85.7%) and made two three-pointers.
