For 6th time this year, Grand Canyon's Samantha Murphy selected PacWest Player of Week
PHOENIX, AZ - Grand Canyon senior guard
Samantha Murphy (Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep)
has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women’s
Basketball Player of the Week for the sixth time this season.
The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, March 7, for games held Feb. 28-March 6.
Murphy led the Antelopes to the PacWest title and a 3-0 week in Hawai‘i by averaging 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
She led the league in scoring for the week, while her rebounding average tied her for ninth.
She also tied for ninth in assists per game and shared the PacWest lead in steals per contest (4.0) over the last seven days.
Murphy was outstanding from the line, hitting 24 of 26 (92.3%) free throw attempts.

Tammy Brawner - Dominican (CA) (Gr., 5-6, G, Oakland,
CA/Skyline)...scored 15 points, collected five
rebounds and handed out five assists in season finale vs. NDNU on
March 5...Penguins won the contest 67-58...also posted four
steals.
Johnna Brown - Dixie State (So., 6-0, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial)...helped Dixie State to a 2-1 week and a berth in the NCAA II Tournament...averaged 16.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in three contests...tied for fifth in scoring and rebounding for the week in the PacWest...went 12 for 12 from the foul line...ranked sixth in shooting for the week after making 17 of 31 (54.8%) field goal attempts.
Erica Carlson - Dixie State (Sr., 6-4, C, Tucson, AZ/Canyon del Oro)...helped the Red Storm to a 2-1 week and a berth in the NCAA’s by averaging 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.3 blocks per game...led the PacWest in blocked shots for the week and tied for third in rebounding...shot 60.0% (9 for 15) from the field and 100.0% (6 for 6) from the line...tied for first in foul shooting and tied for third in field goal percentage for the week in the PacWest.
Raquel Gomes - Dominican (CA) (Sr., 5-10, C, Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery)...scored 16 points, snared 11 rebounds and shot 53.3% (8 for 15) from the floor in season finale vs. NDNU on March 5...Penguins won the contest 67-58.
Breann Hill - Dixie State (Sr., 5-10, F, Harrisburg,
PA/McDevitt)...helped Dixie State to a 2-1 week and a
berth in the NCAA II Tournament...averaged 19.3 points and 9.0
rebounds per game in three contests...ranked fourth in scoring and
tied for fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...went 10
for 11 from the foul line (90.9%)...ranked seventh in steals per
game (2.3) for the week...ranked 10th in shooting for the week
after making 20 of 39 (51.3%) field goal attempts...hit 8 of 11
(72.7%) three-point attempts to rank fourth in the league in
three-point shooting for the week...ranked second in three’s
made per game (2.7)...ranked third in blocked shots per game (1.3)
for the week.
Mana Hopkins-Vandenakker - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-10, F, Kona, HI/Konawaena)...averaged 14.0 points per game in a 1-1 week for the Sea Warriors...poured in 21 points in loss vs. PacWest Champion Grand Canyon on March 5.
Kirsty Imai - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-4, G, Hilo, HI/Waiakea)...scored 21 points in lone game of the week - an 81-43 setback vs. Dixie State on March 5...shot 60.0% (6 for 10) from the floor...tied for third in shooting for the week in the conference...also handed out four assists and went 7 for 7 from the line...was 2 for 2 from beyond the arc.
Richelle Rieben - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-5, G, Coeur d’Alene,
ID/Lake City)...led the Seasiders to a 1-1 week by
averaging 20.5 points per game...ranked third in scoring and tied
for 11th in shooting (50.0% - 15 for 30) in the PacWest...also shot
50.0% (11 for 22) from beyond the arc and led the PacWest in
three-pointers made per game (5.5) for the week...tied for sixth in
three-point shooting during the week.
Maylinn Smith - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-9, G/F, Gilbert, AZ/Mesquite)...averaged 14.7 points per game during a 3-0 week for the Antelopes...ranked second in the league in shooting during the week...converted 18 of 29 field goal attempts (62.1%).
Emily Vore - Notre Dame de Namur (Jr., 6-0, C, San Bernardino, CA/Redlands)...averaged 10.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in a 0-2 week for the Argos...teid for fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
