Academy of Art visits California Baptist for PacWest Women’s Basketball Game of the Week
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The 2011-12 Pacific West
Conference women’s basketball schedule begins this Saturday,
Dec. 17, for Academy of Art and California Baptist when the Urban
Knights travel to Riverside, Calif., to tangle with the Lancers in
the PacWest
Game of the Week.
Each week during the women’s basketball season, the PacWest will spotlight a game that will be broadcast live over the Internet. Academy of Art and California Baptist will tip off at 1 p.m. (PST).
Academy of Art is currently 3-4 on the season and is led by sophomore forward Alisa Griggs (Milwaukie, OR/Oregon City) who is averaging 14.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Senior guard Devin London (Oak Park, IL/Marian Catholic) is ranked second on the team in scoring with an 11.4 points-per-game average, while she also is collecting 4.6 rebounds per contest.
The Urban Knights have wins over Cal State East Bay, Western Oregon, and an overtime victory vs. Cal State Los Angeles.
California Baptist is 4-1 on the season and has reeled off a four-game winning streak since its season-opening loss to Simon Fraser. The Lancers have defeated Holy Names, La Sierra twice, and Hope International.
A trio of players is leading the Lancers’ offense – junior guard Myriah Hicks (Springfield, MO/Central), junior guard Simone Holmes (Phoenix, AZ/South Mountain) and senior center Alexis Johnson (Murrieta, CA/Calvary Chapel Murrieta). All three players are scoring in double-figures.
Hicks is posting 15.5 points per game to top California Baptist, while Holmes is pouring in 14.8 points per outing. Johnson is averaging 10.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.
Saturday’s contest marks the first PacWest Conference game in the sport of women’s basketball in the history of CBU athletics.
