BYU-Hawaii junior Shayla Washington selected PacWest Women’s Basketball Player of Week
PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii junior forward Shayla
Washington (Phoenix, AZ/Trevor Browne) has been
selected the Pacific West Conference Women’s Basketball
Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 30, for games contested Jan. 23-29.
Washington led the Seasiders to a 1-1 week by averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game. She ranked third in scoring, tied for seventh in rebounding and tied for third in thefts.
She also shot 57.1% (4 for 7) from beyond the three-point arc and averaged 2.0 three-pointers made per game. She ranked sixth in three-point shooting for the week.
PacWest Women’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll
Sheila Adams - Dixie State (Sr., 5-6, G, Layton,
UT/Layton)...led Red Storm to a 57-50 victory over
Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 24 - the lone game of the week for Dixie
State...scored 20 points, pulled down six rebounds and shot 75.0%
(6 for 8) from the field...also shot 80.0% (4 for 5) from the
three-point line.
Jallisa Butler - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-1, F, Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron)...averaged 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week...tied for eighth in scoring and ranked fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...shot 72.2% (13 for 18) from the field to rank eighth.
Kellene Costello - Chaminade (Sr., 5-7, G, Wixom, MI/Walled Lake Central)...scored 16 points and added two assists in lone game of the week - a 73-52 setback at Academy of Art on Jan. 23...shot 50.0% (3 for 6) from beyond the three-point line.
Alisa Griggs - Academy of Art (So., 6-0, F, Milwaukie, OR/Oregon City)...led Urban Knights to a 73-52 triumph over Chaminade on Jan. 23 - the lone game of the week for Art U...scored 14 points, collected five rebounds and handed out three assists in win...shot 62.5% (5 for 8) from the field...also had three steals.
Myriah Hicks - California Baptist (Jr., 5-4, G, Springfield,
MO/Central)...scored 18 points, handed out three
assists and went 5 for 5 from the floor in a tough 58-55 loss at
Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 28...shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the
line.
Mana Hopkins - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-10, F, Kona, HI/Konawaena)...posted 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds in 70-59 victory at Grand Canyon on Jan. 24...shot 69.2% (9 for 13) from the floor and shot 80.0% (4 for 5) from the line...also shot 50.0% (3 for 6) from beyond the arc.
Hillary Hurley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-2, F, Anderson, CA/Enterprise)...averaged 13.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Vulcans...also averaged 2.5 assists per contest.
Taylor Mann - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., 6-2, C, Castle Dale, UT/Emery)...averaged 16.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Seasiders...ranked sixth in scoring and second in rebounding for the week in the PacWest...also averaged 2.0 steals per contest.
Maylinn Smith - Grand Canyon (So., 5-9, G/F, Mesa, AZ/Mesquite)...averaged 15.5 points and 3.0 assists per game in a 1-1 week for the Antelopes...ranked seventh in scoring and tied for ninth in handing out helpers for the week...shot 87.5% (7 for 8) from the line...made 6 of 14 (42.9%) three-point attempts.
Kayla Valentine - Dominican (CA) (So., 5-6, G, Chino, CA/Don Lugo)...averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Penguins.
