Hawai‘i Hilo junior guard Kirsten Shimizu receives latest PacWest Women’s Basketball honors
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo junior guard
Kirsten Shimizu - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sacramento,
CA/Kennedy) has been selected the Pacific West
Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Jan. 9, for games contested Jan. 2-8.
Shimizu led the Vulcans to a 2-0 week with a pair of road victories on Oahu vs. BYU-Hawaii and Hawai‘i Pacific.
She led the PacWest in scoring for the week by averaging 22.5 points per game, while she ranked third in field goal percentage after shooting 76.0% from the floor (17 for 25).
Shimizu was phenomenal from beyond the arc, hitting 75.0% (6 for 8) of her attempts while also making 83.3% (5 for 6) of her foul shots.
She ranked second in three-point shooting, tied for second in three-pointers made per game (3.0), and tied for 10th in free throw shooting.
Shimizu also averaged 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals per contest, tying for fourth in thefts per game for the week in the PacWest.

Jallisa Butler - Grand Canyon (Sr., 6-1, F, Las Vegas, NV/Cimarron)...led GCU to a 2-0 mark in the Bay Area by dominating on the glass...averaged PacWest-best 13.5 rebounds per game during the week...averaged 8.5 boards per contest on the defensive end alone...also averaged 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest.
Paris Gravely - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-5, G, Fairfield, CA/Fairfield)...helped HPU to a 1-1 week by averaging 18.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game...ranked fourth in scoring for the week in the PacWest...hit 50.0% (7 of 14) from three-point land...ranked first in three-pointers made per game (3.5) and tied for eighth in three-point shooting for the week.
Myriah Hicks - California Baptist (Jr., 5-4, G, Springfield, MO/Central)...helped lead the Lancers to a 3-0 week in the San Francisco Bay Area by averaging 17.7 points, 2.7 steals and 3.3 assists per game...tied for sixth in scoring, tied for eighth in thefts, and ranked eighth in assist average for the week in the PacWest...ranked sixth in shooting with a 61.5% rate (16 for 26)...made 50.0% (6 for 12) from beyond the three-point line - good enough to tie for eighth for the week...averaged 2.0 three-pointers made per game...shot 75.0% (15 for 20) from the line.
Simone Holmes - California Baptist (Jr., 5-8, G, Phoenix, AZ/South
Mountain)...averaged 14.7 points per game while
shooting 55.9% (19 for 34) from the field in leading the Lancers to
a 3-0 week...tied for 10th in scoring the PacWest for the
week...shot 50.0% (3 for 6) from beyond the arc.
Mana Hopkins - Hawai‘i Pacific (Sr., 5-10, F, Kona, HI/Konawaena)...helped HPU to a 1-1 week by averaging 19.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game...ranked third in scoring and fifth in rebounding in the PacWest for the week...made 17 of 29 (58.6%) attempts from the floor - eighth in the league for the week...connected on 2 of 4 (50.0%) three-point attempts.
Hillary Hurley - Hawai‘i Hilo (Sr., 6-2, F, Anderson, CA/Enterprise)...led Vulcans to a 2-0 week by averaging 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game...both victories came in road wins on Oahu vs. BYU-Hawaii and Hawai‘i Pacific...tied for second in the PacWest in rebounding for the week...shot 83.3% (15 for 18) from the line...tied for 10th in foul shooting in the PacWest for the week.
Maylinn Smith - Grand Canyon (So., 5-9, G/F, Mesa,
AZ/Mesquite)...led the Antelopes to a 2-0 mark by
averaging 12.5 points, 3.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds per
contest...shot 56.3% (9 for 16) from the field and 60.0% (3 for 5)
from beyond the arc...went 4 for 4 from the line...had a 2.0
assist/turnover ratio.
Becca Thomas - Dixie State (Jr., 6-2, C, Riverside, CA/Santa Clara)...led the Red Storm to a 2-1 week in the Bay Area...averaged 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest...ranked fourth in rebounding and tied for sixth in scoring for the week in the PacWest...shot 57.6% (19 for 33) from the field to stand 10th in the league for the week...made 15 of 20 (75.0%) free throw attempts.
Shayla Washington - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-9, F, Phoenix, AZ/Thunderbird)...scored 21 points and collected 10 rebounds in BYU-Hawaii’s lone game of the week - a 72-59 loss vs. Hawai‘i Hilo on Jan. 5...also made 9 of 12 (75.0%) from the line.
