PacWest Women's Basketball Game of the Week: Grand Canyon @ Dixie State (Jan. 10)
ST. GEORGE, Utah – The Grand Canyon women's basketball team gallops into St. George, Utah, on Thursday evening, Jan. 10, to take on Dixie State in a pivotal early-season Pacific West Conference contest that has been selected the PacWest Women's Basketball Game of the Week.
Although just 7-6 overall after battling its way through a tough schedule, the Red Storm is 5-0 in the PacWest and tied for first with Academy of Art atop the conference standings.
GCU, ranked 19th in Division II, has won 8 of its last 10 games, is 4-1 in the PacWest, and has unleashed a 12-4 overall mark.
The Antelopes need a victory to avoid falling two games behind Art U and Dixie State in the loss column, while a Red Storm win could help push Dixie State closer toward a conference title.
The two teams tip off at 5 p.m. MST on Thursday evening.
Johnna Brown has been a machine for the Red Storm this season. Through games of Jan. 9, she was ranked 10th in scoring with a 12.5 points-per-game average, and second in rebounding with an 11.4 per-game mark.
Kaylah Miller is averaging 11.1 points per contest for Dixie State, ranking 17th in the conference.
Judy Jones leads GCU and has been dominating in the PacWest. She is ranked third in scoring (17.0 ppg.) and in rebounding (10.4), second in shooting (55.6%), and fourth in thefts per contest (2.3) in the conference.
