Grand Canyon, HPU and Art U remain in women’s basketball regional ranking
INDIANAPOLIS – Three Pacific West Conference women's basketball teams remain listed among the Top 10 in the NCAA Division II West Region Ranking.
Grand Canyon (20-6/19-5 West Region), Hawai'i Pacific (16-6/16-6) and Academy of Art (18-8/17-7) and are ranked fifth, eighth and 10th, respectively. The team's records are reflected through games of Sunday, Feb. 24.
The Antelopes remained fifth for the second straight week, while HPU – after beating Grand Canyon and Dixie State – jumped from 10th to eighth. Art U slipped one spot to 10th.
The NCAA unveiled the regional rankings for the eight regions around the nation on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from its headquarters in Indianapolis.
The Top 8 teams in each region will comprise the 64-team NCAA II Women's Basketball National Championship field. The tournament seletion show will be held on Sunday, March 10.
The PacWest will crown its first tournament champion March 9 following a three-day, six-team event that will be held at Azusa Pacific University starting March 7. The winner will receive the automatic berth to the NCAA II National Championship Tournament.
While GCU, HPU and Art U are the leading candidates from the PacWest to receive at-large bids to the NCAA II Championship, the inaugural PacWest Tournament could produce an automatic qualifier from any team in the field.
The regional rankings will continue each Wednesday until the selection show on March 10.
