Hawai'i Pacific's Mikela Thoemmes named PacWest Player of the Week
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Hawai'i Pacific junior forward Mikela Thoemmes (Honolulu, HI/Roosevelt) has been named the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
The conference announced the honor on Monday, Feb. 25, for games contested Feb. 18-24.
Thoemmes came of the bench to lead the Sea Warriors to a pair of one-point road victories over playoff-bound teams during the week, including a 62-61 victory at Hawai'i Hilo on Feb. 18 and a 64-63 win at #19 Grand Canyon on Feb. 23.
Thoemmes averaged a double-double during the week, recording 13.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. She ranked third in rebounding and 17th in scoring for the week in the conference, and she dominated on the defensive glass by pulling down 8.5 rebounds per outing.
And Thoemmes contributed all of her stats while coming off the bench.
Against Hawai'i Hilo she set the HPU single-game rebound record by inhaling 20 while also recording 16 points.
In just 23 minutes against Grand Canyon, Thoemmes she went 5 for 9 from the floor and finished the game with 11 points and five rebounds.
She scored six of HPU's final 14 points over the remaining 5:17 of the contest. First she hit back-to-back layups to put the Sea Warriors ahead 54-50 with 4:31 left in the contest; then she started a 7-0 run with a layup at 1:36 that turned a 60-57 deficit into a 64-60 lead with 0:09 left in regulation.

Johnna Brown (Jr., 6-1, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) – Dixie State – led Red Storm to an 80-49 win over BYU-Hawaii in lone game of the week for the Red Storm…scored 22 points, collected 13 rebounds, handed out seven assists and registered five steals in the win…shot 50.0% (9 for 18) from the floor – tied for 15th in the PacWest for the week (left photo).
Ariel Dale (Sr., 5-8, F, Los Angeles, CA/Pacific Hills) – Academy of Art – led Urban Knights to a 2-0 week by averaging 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game…tied for 14th in rebounding, tied for seventh in helping, and ranked fifth in steal average for the week in the league.
Deanna Daniels (Jr., 5-10, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) – Grand Canyon – scored 15 points and snared eight rebounds in tough 64-63 home loss vs. HPU on Feb. 23 – the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…shot 54.5% (6 for 11) from the floor in the contest…ranked ninth in shooting for the week in the PacWest…went 3 for 3 at the line.
Jessica Escorza (So., 5-11, G, Los Angeles, CA/Independence) – Point Loma – led Sea Lions to a 1-1 week by averaging 19.0 points per game – fourth-best in the PacWest for the week…scored 32 points in win over Fresno Pacific on Feb. 23…shot 57.1% (12 for 21) from the floor…tied for sixth in shooting for the week in the PacWest…made 14 of 16 (87.5%) attempts from the foul line.
Renique Fitzpatrick (Fr., 6-0, G, Fairfield, CA/Armijo) – Holy Names – averaged 13.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Hawks…tied for 16th in scoring and tied for fifth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.
Jasmin Guinn (Fr., 5-6, G, Berkeley, CA/Berkeley) – Academy of Art – helped lead the Urban Knights to a 2-0 week by averaging 12.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game…tied for 12th in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…shot 52.9% (9 for 17) from the floor – tied for 13th-best in the league for the week.
Erica Hayes (Sr., 5-7, G, East Palo Alto, CA/Menlo-Atherton) – Dixie State – led Red Storm to an 80-49 win over BYU-Hawaii in its lone game of the week…scored 24 points, collected eight rebounds and recorded four steals in the win…shot 58.3% (7 for 12) from the floor – fifth-best in the PacWest for the week.

Kamie Imai (Jr., 5-9, G, Hilo, HI/Waiakea) – Hawai'i Hilo – totaled 12 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, and three steals in a tough 62-61 loss vs. HPU on Feb. 18 – the lone game of the week for the Vulcans…shot 50.0% (5 for 10) from the floor and went 2 for 2 at the line.
Hannah Kenny (Jr., 5-11, F, San Luis Obispo, CA/San Luis Obispo) – Azusa Pacific – averaged 12.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the Cougars…tied for eighth in rebounding in the PacWest for the week.
Salonika Quewon-Owens (Jr., 5-8, G, Fairfield, CA/Armijo) – Dominican – averaged 14.5 rebounds, 9.0 points and 4.5 steals per game despite a 0-2 week for the Penguins…ranked second in thefts and first in rebounding in the PacWest for the week.
Callie Rhoads (Jr., 5-9, G, Poway, CA/Poway) – Point Loma – led the Sea Lions to a 1-1 week by averaging 17.0 points and 3.5 three-pointers made per game…ranked fourth in three-pointers drained per contest for the week in the PacWest…tied for sixth in scoring.
