Grand Canyon’s Judy Jones claims third PacWest Women’s Basketball Player of Week honor

Judy Jones PHOENIX, Ariz. – Grand Canyon junior guard/forward Judy Jones (Monroe, LA/Wossman) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week and for the third time this year after a dominating two-game performance.

The conference announced the honor on Monday, Dec. 17, for games played Dec. 10-16.

Jones led the Antelopes to a 2-0 week with an 82-64 thrashing of Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 10 and a 97-59 win over Fresno Pacific in a conference contest on Dec. 15.

Jones continued her torrid pace by averaging 28.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 69.0% (20 for 29) from the field.

She led the PacWest in scoring for the week while also ranking fifth in shooting. She also was 13th in free throw conversions after making 72.7% (16 for 22) from the line.

Jones finished the week tied for third rebounding and tied for sixth in thievery in the PacWest.

Ariel Dale (Sr., 5-8, F, Los Angeles, CA/Pacific Hills) – Academy of Art – led the Urban Knights to an 81-53 whipping of Western Oregon on Dec. 13 – the lone game of the week for the Art U…scored 18 points, grabbed nine rebounds, handed out three assists and recorded four steals in the win…shot 64.3% (9 for 14) from the field – sixth-best in the PacWest for the week.

Savannah Erskine (Jr., 5-7, G, Culver City, CA/Culver City) – Point Loma – scored 18 points and handed out six assists while shooting 50.0% (5 for 10) from three-point range in lone game of the week – an 80-63 loss at Dixie State on Dec. 15…tied for sixth in three-point shooting for the week.

Yesenia Garzon (Sr., 6-0, G, San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) – Holy Names – scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in HNU's 84-54 win over Cal State Maritime on Dec. 15 – the lone game of the week for the Hawks…tied for seventh in shooting for the week (62.5%) in the PacWest…made 5 of 8 field goal attempts in the win…hit both free throw attempts.

Jordan Giles (Jr., 5-7, G, Rock Springs, WY/Rock Springs) – Dixie State – helped Red Storm to an 80-63 win over PLNU on Dec. 15 – the lone game of the week for Dixie State…totaled 14 points, five rebounds and two steals in win…tied for seventh in shooting in the PacWest for the week (62.5%)…made 5 of 8 field goal attempts…made 3 of 5 (60.0%) three-point attempts…ranked fourth for the week in the league in three-point shooting.

Trisha Malaspina (Jr., 6-0, C, Burlingame, CA/Burlingame) – Notre Dame de Namur – averaged 12.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game despite a 0-3 week for the Argos…tied for 13th in scoring and ranked eighth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…ranked 12th in shooting for the week in the league (51.9%)…made 14 of 27 field goal attempts…ranked 10th in foul shooting for the week after making 8 of 9 (88.9%) attempts from the line.

Erica Paskell (Jr., 5-10, G, Grapevine, TX/Grapevine) – Grand Canyon – averaged 14.0 points and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 50.0% (11 for 22) from the field in a 2-0 week for the Antelopes…tied for 13th in shooting and tied for seventh in scoring for the week in the PacWest…tied for fourth in the league in three-pointers made per game (3.0) for the week after hitting on six over two games.

Callie Rhoads Britney Potestio (Sr., 5-8, G, San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) – Holy Names – totaled 18 points in leading Hawks to 84-54 win over Cal State Maritime on Dec. 15 – the lone game of the week for HNU…also handed out nine assists and shot 50.0% (3 for 6) from beyond the arc…tied for sixth in three-point shooting in the PacWest for the week…made 45.5% (5 for 11) of attempts from the field.

Callie Rhoads (Jr., 5-9, G, Poway, CA/Poway) – Point Loma – scored 19 points on 44.4% (4 for 9) three-point shooting in lone game of the week – an 80-63 loss at Dixie State on Dec. 15…tied for ninth in three-point shooting for the week (right photo).

Yvonne Sanchez (Jr., 5-5, G, Pomona, CA/Garey) – Dominican – averaged 10.0 points per game while shooting 45.5% (10 for 22) from the field and 44.4% (4 for 9) from beyond the arc despite a 0-3 mark for the Penguins…ranked ninth in three-point shooting for the week in the league…was perfect from the line (6 for 6).

Maylinn Smith (Jr., 5-9, G/F, Mesa, AZ/Mesquite) – Grand Canyon – averaged 11.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.0 three-pointers made per game in a 2-0 week for the Antelopes…tied for 17th in scoring and ranked ninth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest.

Sha'Nice Storey Charde Stevens (Fr.-r, 5-10, F, Sacramento, CA/Golden Valley) – Fresno Pacific – scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds in lone game of the week – a 97-59 loss at Grand Canyon on Dec. 15.
