HNU's Yesenia Garzon named PacWest Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

Yesenia Garzon PHOENIX, Ariz. – Holy Names senior guard Yesenia Garzon (San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) has been named the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The conference announced the honor on Tuesday, Jan. 1, for games contested Dec. 24-30.

In a tough 68-61 loss at Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 29, Garzon led the Hawks by posting a double-double with 13 rebounds and 10 points over 31 minutes of action. She also had three steals and a blocked shot – all without committing a turnover.

Garzon shot 45.4% from the floor after making 5 of 11 shots from the field, while nine of her rebounds took place on the offensive glass.

The contest was the lone game of the week for the Hawks and one of just two games involving PacWest teams for the week.

Deanna Daniels Deanna Daniels (Jr., 5-10, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) – Grand Canyon – came off the bench to record 11 points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in 16 minutes of action - all without committing a turnover - in an 86-38 whipping of Northern New Mexico on Dec. 30…it marked the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…went 7 for 10 (70.0%) from the line and 2 for 3 (66.7%) from the field (left photo).

Renique Fitzpatrick (Fr., 6-0, G, Fairfield, CA/Armijo) – Holy Names – totaled 16 rebounds – including 13 on the defensive end – nine points, five blocks, six steals and two assists in a tough 68-61 setback at Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 29 – the lone game of the week for the Hawks and just one of two contests in the PacWest.

Jasmine Grant (So., 5-8, G, Tucson, AZ/Catalina Magnet) – Holy Names – accrued 10 points, seven rebounds, four steals and an assist in lone game of the week – a tough 68-61 defeat at Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 29.

Justine Johnson (Jr., 5-6, G, Mesa, AZ/Gilbert) – Grand Canyon – recorded 11 points, three rebounds, six steals and three assists during an 86-38 thumping of Northern New Mexico on Dec. 30 – the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…shot 71.4% (5 for 7) from the field…played a team-high 26 minutes.

Judy Jones (Jr., 5-9, G/F, Monroe, LA/Wossman) – Grand Canyon – posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in an 86-38 whipping of Northern New Mexico on Dec. 30 – the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…shot 66.7% (8 for 12) from the field…had seven offensive rebounds…collected a trio of assists and a pair of steals…saw just 20 minutes of action (right photo).

Maylinn Smith (Jr., 5-9, G/F, Mesa, AZ/Mesquite) – Grand Canyon – amassed 13 points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals in just 22 minutes of action in an 86-38 thrashing of Northern New Mexico on Dec. 30 – the lone game of the week for the Antelopes…made a trio of three-pointers…was 2 for 2 at the foul line…saw just 22 minutes of action.

Dominique Williams (Fr., 5-10, G, Berkeley, CA/Laney College) – Holy Names – recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and a steal during a tough 68-61 defeat at Cal State Stanislaus on Dec. 29 – the lone game of the week for the Hawks…shot 54.5% (6 for 11) from the floor in the contest.
