Grand Canyon’s Judy Jones earns 4th PacWest Player of the Week honor
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Grand Canyon junior guard/forward Judy Jones (Monroe, LA/Wossman) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
The conference announced the honor on Monday, Jan. 14, for games contested Jan. 7-13.
Jones led the Antelopes to a 2-0 week, including a 73-71 double-overtime win at Dixie State on Jan. 10, by averaging a double-double. She posted 20.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game while also recording 4.5 steals per contest.
Jones ranked fifth in scoring, tied for fourth in rebounding and ranked second in steals per game for the week in the PacWest.
She also shot 50.0% (12 for 24) from the floor.

Jasmine Beverly (Sr., 5-11, F, Houston, TX/Clear Lake) – California Baptist – scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 69-43 win over PLNU on Jan. 12 – the lone game of the week for the Lancers…shot 66.7% (6 for 9) to tie for third in field goal percentage for the week in the PacWest…went 3 for 3 at the line (Left Photo).
Johnna Brown (Jr., 6-1, F, Las Vegas, NV/Centennial) – Dixie State – averaged 18.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game despite a 0-2 week for the Red Storm…ranked seventh in scoring and second in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…shot 52.0% (13 for 25) from the field…made 11 of 16 (66.8%) free throw attempts…also averaged 2.5 steals per game.
Alisa Griggs (Jr., 6-0, F, Milwaukie, OR/Oregon City) – Academy of Art – led the Urban Knights to a 2-0 week with victories over BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade…averaged 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 60.0% (15 for 2) from the field…ranked 11th in scoring, tied for eighth in rebounding and tied for ninth in field goal percentage for the week in the PacWest.
Danna Lynn Hooper (Jr., 5-4, G, Hoolehua, HI/Molokai) – BYU-Hawaii – totaled 23 points while shooting 53.8% (7 for 13) from the floor in an 85-80 loss to Art U on Jan. 7…went 6 for 6 at the line…made 3 of 7 (42.9%) attempts from beyond the arc.
Lauren Hyatt (So., 6-2, C, Oak Hills, CA/Serranto) – Dominican – led the Penguins to a 1-1 week in Hawai'i by shooting 64.3% (9 for 14) from the field and averaging 12.5 points per game…also pulled down 4.5 rebounds per contest and recorded 1.5 blocks per outing.
Kamie Imai (Jr., 5-9, G, Hilo, HI/Waiakea) – Hawai'i Hilo – led the Vulcans to a 77-68 win over Holy Names on Jan. 7 by scoring 18 points, grabbing nine rebounds and handing out four assists…went 4 for 4 at the line…also blocked two shots, posted a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio, and recorded a trio of steals.
Hannah Kenny (Jr., 5-11, F, San Luis Obispo, CA/San Luis Obispo) – Azusa Pacific – led the Cougars to a 2-0 week, including a 66-59 victory over Dixie State on Jan. 12…averaged 14.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game…ranked 16th in scoring and tied for fourth in rebounding for the week in the PacWest…also tied for 12th in shooting after making 8 of 14 (57.1%) attempts from the field…shot 76.5% (13 for 17) from the line.
Trisha Malaspina (Jr., 6-0, C, Burlingame, CA/Burlingame) – Notre Dame de Namur – scored 19 points while shooting 53.8% (7 for 13) from the field in an 84-58 loss at HPU on Jan. 7.
Britney Potestio (Sr., 5-8, G, San Lorenzo, CA/Arroyo) – Holy Names – averaged 22.5 points, 3.5 assists, 5.0 three-pointers made, and 2.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Hawks…shot 87.5% (7 for 8) from the line and 51.9% (14 for 27) from the field…ranked fourth in scoring for the week in the PacWest…ranked fifth in three-point shooting for the week after making 10 of 16 (62.5) attempts from beyond the arc…ranked second for the week in three-pointers made per game.
Kirsten Shimizu (Sr., 5-0, G, Sacramento, CA/Kennedy) – Hawai'i Hilo – led the Vulcans to a 77-68 win over Holy Names on Jan. 7 by scoring 23 points and handing out six assists…had a 6.0 assist/turnover ratio in the contest…also shot 57.1% (4 for 7) from the three-point line – sixth-best in the PacWest for the week…ranked eight in overall shooting for the week in the league…posted a field goal percentage of 61.5% (8 for 13) to stand eighth in the PacWest for the week.
Amanda Sims (Sr., 5-10, G, Fullerton, CA/Troy) – Azusa Pacific – led the Cougars to a 2-0 week, including a 66-59 victory over Dixie State on Jan. 12…averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game…shot 45.5% (5 for 11) from beyond the arc…ranked 13th in scoring and in three-point shooting for the week in the PacWest…also ranked 10th in three-pointers made per game (2.5) for the week.
Sha'Nice Storey (Fr., 5-6, G, Portland, OR/St. Mary's Academy) – Academy of Art – led the Urban Knights to a 2-0 week with victories over BYU-Hawaii and Chaminade…averaged 26.0 points and 6.5 three-pointers made per game while shooting 54.3% (19 for 35) from the field…ranked first in scoring and in three-pointers made per contest for the week in the PacWest (Right Photo).
Brydgette Tatupu-Leopoldo (So., 5-8, G, Honolulu, HI/Farrington) – BYU-Hawaii – amassed 18 points, seven rebounds and 10 assists in an 85-80 loss to Art U on Jan. 7…posted a 2.5 assist/turnover ratio in the contest.
