University of Hawaii at Hilo women's soccer coach Cam Camarena steps down
HILO, HI - University of Hawai‘i at
Hilo women's soccer coach Cam Camarena has stepped down but will
remain with the institution as the men's head coach.
The announcement was made on Dec. 4 by Dexter Irvin, the director of athletics for the institution.
"Cam and his coaching staff did a commendable job of developing
two competitive teams this year," Irvin said. "We appreciate all
their efforts in recruiting and developing outstanding
student/athletes on both teams as well as facing all the challenges
running that presented
themselves.
"However, we've got to look out for what would be more beneficial for the overall athletic program. One coach cannot give two fall teams the attention they need to become competitive in the conference or region."
The women's team finished seventh in the conference with a 3-8-3 record and was 4-12-4 overall. The men finished fourth in the PacWest with a 9-5 record and was 10-10 overall.
UHH participates in the nine-member Pacific West Conference which includes Academy of Art University (Calif.), Brigham Young University Hawaii, Chaminade University of Honolulu, Dixie State College of Utah, Dominican University of California, Grand Canyon University (Ariz.), Hawai‘i Pacific University and Notre Dame de Namur University (Calif.).
