Vulcan goalie Shanna Brown earns Player of Week honors

PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Hilo senior goalkeeper Shanna Brown (Fairbanks, AK/Lathrop) has been chosen the Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Sept. 21, for games played Sept. 14-20.

Brown led the Vulcans to a 2-0-0 week and a 1-0-0 start to the PacWest season by tossing a pair of shutouts.

She stopped all 10 shots on goal flung her way over 180 minutes of action in a 3-0 blanking of Chaminade on Sept. 14 and a 1-0 win over Hawai‘i Pacific on Sept. 19.

Natasha Aiono (right) - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-2, M, South Jordan, UT/Bingham)...scored two goals and finished with four points in 9-0 blanking of Chaminade on Sept. 19.

Whitley Davis - Dixie State (So., 5-5, D, Sandy, UT/Brighton)...punched in game-winning goal on a penalty kick 3:07 into overtime as Dixie State edged Grand Canyon 3-2 on Sept. 19.

Carmela Doer - Academy of Art (Fr., 5-7, F/D, Austin, TX/Westlake)...scored game-tying goal at 77:23 off a corner kick to force overtime vs. NDNU on Sept. 19...Urban Knights eventually lost in double-overtime by the score of 3-2.

Bridget Folan (left) - Dominican (CA) (Jr., 5-5, F, Pacifica, CA/Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep)...figured in first three goals of a 5-1 Penguins' victory over Menlo on Sept. 16...assisted on first goal...scored game-winner at 25:13...added second goal seven minutes later...finished game with five points on two goals and one assist.

Emily Mearns - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-6, F, San Ramon, CA/California)...scored a pair of goals and totaled four points in 9-0 thumping of Chaminade on Sept. 19...credited with the game-winner.

Sally Olsson (right) - Notre Dame de Namur (Sr., 5-6, M, Hillsboro, OR/Century)...scored a pair of goals vs. Academy of Art - including game-winner - on Sept. 19...Argos defeated Urban Knights 3-2 in double-overtime...tallied game-deciding goal at 108:45...finished game with two goals and four points...gave NDNU a 2-1 lead at 56:04.

Alysia Salvador - Hawai‘i Hilo (So., 5-7, F/M, Escondido, CA/Orange Glen)...scored the game-winning goal for UHH vs. Hawaii Pacific on Sept. 19...scored a goal in a non-league win over Chaminade on Sept. 14...finished the week with four points on two goals.

Sasha Scott - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-2, M, West Hills, CA/El Camino Real)...scored game-tying goal at 70:39 to eventually force overtime vs. Dixie State on Sept. 19...Antelopes lost 3-2 in the extra session.

Margaret Sekona - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-3, F, Juneau, AK/Juneau Douglas)...recorded a pair of goals in 9-0 victory over Chaminade on Sept. 19...finished the game with four points.

Mary Wheeler - Dominican (CA) (Fr., 5-4, F, Edgewood, WA/Puyallup)...produced five points on two goals and one assist in 5-1 victory over Menlo on Sept. 16...scored game's first goal...assisted on game-winner...added insurance goal at 38:10 for a 4-0 Penguin lead.
