Hat-trick earns BYU-Hawaii's Emily Mearns Player of Week honors

PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii senior forward Emily Mearns (San Ramon, CA/California) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for 2010.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Aug. 30, for games played Aug. 28-29.

Mearns rang up a hat-trick in the Seasiders’ 4-0 win over Regis (CO) in the season opener on Aug. 29.

She finished the game with six points on the three goals as BYU-Hawaii starts out the season 1-0-0.

Carianne Makino - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 5-0, G, Honolulu, HI/Kaiser)...stopped 9 of 10 shots in tough 1-0 double-overtime loss vs. Regis (CO) in season opener on Aug. 28.

Megan McCain - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., 5-7, G, Northglenn, CO/Broomfield)... earned shutout in her fist career start by stopping both shots on goal she faced in a 1-0 Seasider 4-0 victory over Regis (CO).

Dayneen Moriwaki - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., 5-5, M, Mililani, HI/Mililani)...scored a goal vs. Chaminade in UHH’s 4-0 win on Aug. 28.

Akemi Rair - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr., 5-5, M, Pearl City, HI/St. Andrews Priory)... scored insurance goal vs. Chaminade on Aug. 28 less than five minutes into the second half to give Vulcans a 2-0 lead...UHH won the non-conference opener 4-0.

Shannel Ramirez - Hawai‘i Hilo (Fr.-r, 5-10, F, Kailua-Kona, HI/Konawaena)... tallied a goal in Vulcans’ 4-0 blanking of Chaminade on Aug. 28 in season opener.

Kami Strait - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-8, D, Colorado Springs, CO/Rampart)...set up Emily Mearns’ hat-trick goal with a lead pass that led to a breakaway...goal gave the Seasiders a 3-0 lead 66 minutes into the game.
