California Baptist will defend its 2011 NCCAA I Women's Socceer Championship on Dec. 1
KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The California Baptist women’s soccer team will look to defends its 2011 title when the Lancers square off against Southern Nazarene on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. EST in the 2012 National Christian College Athletic Association Division I Women’s Soccer Championship.
The Lancers earned their return trip to the title round by unleashing a nine-goal barrage over two games on Nov. 28 and 29 in the opening rounds of the national tournament.
California Baptist scored four goals in just under 27 minutes against Palm Beach Atlantic en route to a 5-1 thumping of PBA in the national quarterfinals on Nov. 28.
Kelly Jenks (left photo) posted a natural hat-trick in the win, scoring two goals 32 seconds apart followed by a third goal just over 10 minutes later. Jenks scored all three goals in a span of just under 12 minutes.
Lindsay Vesling tallied a goal in the 55th minute on an assist from Jenks, putting the Lancers head 5-1 and leaving Jenks with seven points in the game.
Vesling also had two assists – one on Daelyn Paul’s goal to start the game at 6:05, and then one on Jenks’ third goal at 26:54.
Chantel Cappuccilli (right photo) and Bernadette Witz each had an assist as well in the win.
The victory pushed California Baptist into the semifinal round where the Lancers blanked Grace (IN) 4-0. This time Natosha Yanes started the scoring in the 38th minute to give the Lancers a permanent lead. She also would tally the last goal at 82:42.
Vesling posted a three-point game with a goal and an assist, while Jenks and Kimberly Allard set up Bernadette Witz with the game’s second goal at 66:44.
Rosie Nakata had three saves to earn the shutout win. She also was credited with an assist on a long feed to Vesling for the game’s third goal.
Jenks leads all CBU scorers in the post-season with eight points on three goals and two assists, while Vesling has amassed a quiet seven points on two goals and three assists.
