Dominican soccer's Kick Out Breast Cancer Day set for Saturday, Oct. 20

Pink SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - The Dominican University of California men's and women's soccer teams will hold Kick Out Breast Cancer Day by wearing pink jerseys on Saturday, Oct. 20, when the Penguins host California Baptist University in a Pacific West Conference contest.

The men begin at 12:30 p.m. and the women are slated for a 3 p.m. start time. All fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games in support of breast cancer research.

The pink jerseys will be auctioned off and signed by the student-athletes, with bidding taking place until the end of halftime of each match — halftime of the men's match for the men's jerseys and halftime of the women's match for the women's jerseys.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Marin General Hospital Foundation earmarked for the hospitals' breast health program.

Bidding begins at $50 with $5 increments. Advance bids may be e-mailed to Sports Information Director Brandon Davis or placed in person at the match.

Kick Out Breast Cancer Day is part of a larger effort by Dominican Athletics. The Penguin Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSAAC) has organized Think Pink events to raise awareness about the fight against breast cancer.

On Friday, Oct. 19, the women's volleyball team will warm up with pink volleyballs that also will be auctioned off, and the Penguins will wear pink to honor breast cancer survivors during their match vs. Academy of Art University.

First serve is slated for 7 p.m. with live coverage — live stats, video, and audio — available at www.dominicanathletics.com/live.

Both the volleyball and soccer matches are taking place during the University's Convocation 2012 Family Weekend Oct. 19-21.
