Meghan Fuller earns first PacWest honor of 2009
HPU's Meghan Fuller claims PacWest honor
PHOENIX, AZ - Hawai‘i Pacific red-shirt freshman defender Meghan Fuller (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for 2009.
The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Aug. 31, for games played Aug. 27-30.
Fuller led the PacWest in goals and scoring after tallying three times in three games.
She totaled six points and led the Sea Warriors to a 2-1 record for the week. Fuller scored twice in a 2-0 blanking of Upper Iowa on Aug. 28.

Britt Edman - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-7, F, Salt Lake City, UT/Highland)...scored game-winning goal in season-opening victory vs. Upper Iowa on Aug. 27...tallied season's first goal for BYU-Hawaii just over five minutes into the game.
Amber Fuller - Hawai‘i Pacific (Fr., 5-6, M, Pearl City,
HI/Kamehameha Schools)...had the game-winning goal
for HPU vs. Upper Iowa on Aug. 28 on a penalty kick...finished the
week with two goals on four points.
Kaylan Jackson (right) - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-3, M/F, Tucson, AZ/Amphitheater)...boosted GCU comeback vs. Cal St. Dominguez Hills on Aug. 29 by scoring game-tying goal midway through the second half...Antelopes trailed 2-0 but eventually won 3-2.
Carianne Makino (left) - Hawai‘i Pacific (So.,
5-5, GK, Honolulu, HI/Kaiser)...posted a 2-1 mark
during the opening week of the season...lone loss came against
Division I Hawai‘i...shut out Westminster and Upper Iowa on
Aug. 27 and 28 by identical 2-0 scores...totaled 16 saves for the
week with a 1.33 goals against average and an .800 save percentage
(16 of 20 shots on goal).
Emily Mearns - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-6, F, San Ramon, CA/California)...scored a pair of goals and totaled four points in two games for the Seasiders...scored game-winner vs. Westminster (UT) on Aug. 29.
Abby Monroe - Dixie State (Fr., 5-7, GK, Escondido, CA/Mission Hills)...recorded four saves in shutting out Cal State San Bernardino on Aug. 27...Red Storm won the contest 1-0.
Kelcee Newell - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-4, M, Tucson, AZ/Saguaro)...started GCU comeback vs. Cal St. Dominguez Hills on Aug. 29...Antelopes trailed 2-0 but eventually won 3-2...scored GCU's first goal less than a minute into the second half.
Becky Ploeger - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-5, GK, Broomfield, CO/Standley
Lake)...posted a 2-0 start to the 2009 campaign after
earning victories over Upper Iowa on Aug. 27 and Westminster (UT)
on Aug. 29...totaled six saves in the two games...shut out Upper
Iowa...posted a 0.50 goals against average and an .857 save
percentage during the first week of the season.
Kayla Poe - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-8, F, Mesa, AZ/Dobson)...scored game-winning goal with less than 10 minutes left in regulation as Grand Canyon rallied from a 2-0 deficit vs. Cal St. Dominguez Hills on Aug. 29...Antelopes won 3-2.
Margaret Sekona - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-3, F, Juneau, AK/Juneau Douglas)...recorded a pair of assists vs. Westminster (UT) in a 2-1 come-from-behind victory on Aug. 29.
