BYU-Hawaii advances in NCAA II Tournament
LAIE, HI - The top-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii
women's tennis team defeated 31st-ranked Cal State-Stanislaus
today, 5-0, to win the NCAA II West Regional Tournament and advance
to the NCAA II National Championships. With the win, the Seasiders
improve to 26-0 for the season.
In the doubles matches the Seasiders' Elwen Li and Yuan Jia scored an 8-0 win at the first position to stake BYU-Hawaii to an early lead.
Jenny Chin and Wen-Lin Wang followed with an 8-3 win at number two doubles and Shawni Porter and Ayako Ikeda secured the third point of the match with an 8-2 win at the third doubles spot.
In singles play, Jia breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win at number two singles while Wang claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win at number four to close out the match for BYU-Hawaii.
The Seasiders were leading in each of the four unfinished singles matches when play was halted.
BYU-Hawaii's next action will be at the NCAA II National Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Florida beginning on May 13.
