BYU-Hawaii bounces Northwood, faces Lynn in semifinals
BYU-Hawaii rolls into semifinals with win over Northwood
(MI)
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL - The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team defeated 16th-ranked Northwood (MI) on Thursday, May 13, by the score of 5-0 to advance to the semifinals of the NCAA II National Championship Tournament for the 12th consecutive year.
The win was the 31st consecutive for the Seasiders.
BYU-Hawaii swept through the third doubles matches and picked up wins at the top two singles slots to improve to 31-0 for the season and advance to Friday's semifinal match vs. fourth-ranked Lynn.
BYU–Hawaii’s Elwen Li and Yuan Jia picked up the Seasiders' first point with an 8-0 blanking at number one doubles.
Ayako Ikeda and Shawni Porter scored another point for the Seasiders with an 8-6 win at the second doubles slot, while Jenny Chin and Salina Aranda claimed an 8-2 triumph at third doubles.
Li earned the fourth point of the match for BYU-Hawaii with a 6-1, 6-2 sweep at second singles and Jia ended the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles.
BYU-Hawaii was leading in one of the unfinished singles matches when play was halted. The Seasiders will face Lynn (FL) on Friday at 9 a.m. EDT in Altamonte Springs, FL.
