BYU-Hawaii falls vs. Armstrong Atlantic in NCAA II
finale
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL - The third-ranked Brigham Young University Hawaii women’s tennis team fell just short of a national title on Saturday, losing to Armstrong Atlantic State 5-1 in the finals of the NCAA II National Championship Tournament.
The match was held in Altamonte springs, FL, where the Seasiders posted a 3-1 record in the 16-team, four-round tournament.
After Friday’s epic triumph in the semifinals, the Seasiders were just a little too battered and ill to overcome the top-ranked Pirates.
BYU–Hawaii picked up its lone win at third doubles with an 8-2 win by Jenny Chin and Salina Aranda. That followed an 8-4 victory by the Pirates at number two doubles.
The Seasiders played tough at first doubles before falling 8-5 and slipping behind the Pirates 2-1 heading into the singles competition.
Armstrong Atlantic picked up wins at sixth, third and fourth singles to claim its third straight national title.
BYU–Hawaii finished the season 32-1, while Armstrong
Atlantic stayed perfect at 33-0.
