Zora Vlckova HPU women advance to Florida for next rund of NCAA II tournament

WAIPAHU, HI – In the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Tournament, Hawai‘i Pacific defeated UC San Diego by the score of 5-1.

HPU advances to the round of 16 National Championships to be held May 12-15 in Florida. The match was held at the Central Oahu Regional Tennis Complex.

HPU (19-5) lost only at No.2 singles en route to the dominating win.

At first doubles play, Zora Vlckova and Ingrid Cseh topped Taskeen Baines and Natalie Varnay 8-5, while at second doubles it was HPU's Aleksandra Stankovic and Sandra Wikstrom defeating Anita Athavale and Jacquelyn Davis 8-3.

Tinka Mihova and Nina Mihova won at third doubles over Melissa Breisacher and Samantha Yeung 8-5.

In singles action, HPU claimed first and sixth singles to clinch the victory. Vlckova defeated Baines, 6-3, 6-2, at No.1 singles, followed by Stankovic’s 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles over Jacquelyn Davis.

The Sea Warriors now travel to Altamonte Springs, Fla., for the National Championships. The tournament is hosted by the Central Florida Sports Commission and Rollins College.
