Hawai'i Pacific beats Grand Valley State 5-1 in NCAA II Round of 16
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – Hawai‘i Pacific
advanced to the “elite eight” of women's tennis with a
5-1 victory over Grand Valley State on
Wednesday, May 11.
The 19-5 Sea Warriors advance to play Armstrong Atlantic tomorrow at 1 PM Eastern with a chance to move to the national semi-finals.
HPU breezed through doubles winning 8-2 at first and third doubles and 8-1 at second doubles.
Zora Vlckova and Celina Goetti finished first, followed by Sandra Wikstrom and Carrie Shuler and then Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Aleksandra Stankovic.
With the 3-0 lead, HPU needed to just win two singles matches to clinch.
Vlckova made short work of Tara Hayes winning 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. GVSU then took their sole point of the match with a win at sixth singles.
Ielyzaveta Rybakova was victorious at second singles 6-1, 6-3 to advance HPU to the next round.
