BYU-Hawaii, HPU begin NCAA II Round of 16 on Wednesday, May 11, in Florida
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – BYU-Hawaii
(26-0) and Hawai‘i Pacific (18-5)
will begin their respective quests for a national title when the
NCAA Division II Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament Round of 16 begins play on Wednesday, May 11,
in Altamonte Springs, FL.
As the second seed out of the West Region, HPU will take on the Midwest Region’s number one squad Grand Valley State at 1:30 p.m. EDT (7:30 a.m. HT) on Wednesday, while West Region #1 BYU-Hawaii faces tough Lynn (FL) - the number two squad from the South Region - at 4 p.m. EST (10 a.m. HT).
The Seasiders earned an automatic pass into the Round of 16 for their top ranking in the West Region, while the Sea Warriors needed to defeat Grand Canyon on April 28 to book passage to Florida. HPU blanked the Antelopes 5-0.
If BYU-Hawaii wins, the Seasiders would tackle the survivor of Mesa State-Abilene Christian on Thursday, May 12, in the quarterfinals at 1 p.m. EDT. The national semifinals will be held Friday at 1 p.m., while the NCAA II Championship is slated for Saturday, May 14, at a time to be announced.
If HPU knocks off Grand Valley State, then the Sea Warriors also would advance to the quarterfinals against either powerful Armstrong Atlantic – the #1 team in the Southeast - or Atlantic Region #2 seed Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
