BYU-Hawaii blanks Dominican (CA) 5-0 in PacWest Quarterfinals

Elwen Li Boud LAIE, HI – Top-seed BYU-Hawaii collected three doubles victories and a pair of singles wins to shutout #8 Dominican (CA) 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 14, in Laie, HI.

The Seasiders will battle #5 Chamiande at 8:30 a.m. HT on Friday, April 15, in Laie, HI, in the semifinals.

Elwen Li Boud and Yuan Jia defeated Irina Morozova and Shannon McCarthy-Contreras 8-0 at first doubles, while Shawni Porter and I-Hsuan Annie Hwang rolled over Tami Tan and Jamie Fernandez 8-1 at second doubles.

Third doubles belonged to Sasha Ulbrichtova and Salina Aranda as they cruised to an 8-1 win over Anh Truong and Michele Freitas.

Jia then picked up a second singles victory for the Seasiders, sweeping McCarthy-Contreras 6-0, 6-1. Aranda also claimed a second win at third singles, blanking Fernandez 6-0, 6-0.

The Penguins will take on #4 Academy of Art at 10:45 a.m. HT on Friday in the consolation semifinals.
