HPU rolls into semifinals with 5-0 blanking of Dixie State

LAIE, HI – Second-seed Hawai‘i Pacific used three doubles victories and a pair of singles triumphs to blank #7 Dixie State 5-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 14, in Laie, HI.

The Sea Warriors will square off against #3 Grand Canyon at 1 p.m. HT on Friday, April 15, in Laie, HI, in a semifinal battle.

Celina Goetti and Zora Vlckova defeated Allison Long and Lindsay Snow 8-0 at first doubles, while Ielyzaveta Rybakova and Aleksandra Stankovic teamed up to blank Hillary Wright and Sarah Hughes 8-0 at second doubles.

Sandra Wikstrom and Carrie Shuler earned an 8-2 win over Lauren Tarver and Kelley Terry at third doubles.

Vlckova was a double-winner on the afternoon for the Sea Warriors, beating Long 6-1, 6-0 at first singles, while Goetti also grabbed a second victory after clipping Wright 6-1, 6-0 at third singles.

The Red Storm will take on Hawai‘i Hilo at 3:15 p.m. HT on Friday in the consolation semifinals.
