BYU-Hawaii’s Hwang picked as 6th PacWest Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for 2011

PHOENIX, AZ - BYU-Hawaii’s I-Hsuan Annie Hwang has been picked as the sixth Pacific West Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week of 2011.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Sunday, March 27, for matches contested March 7-13.

Hwang posted a 13-0 record during a 7-0 week for the Seasiders. BYU-Hawaii defeated three Division I teams during the stretch, blanking Southeast Missouri State (7-0), Alabama State (7-0) and Austin Peay (4-0).

The Seasiders also posted wins vs. Division II foes Montevallo (AL), West Florida, Cameron (OK) and Central Oklahoma.

Hwang recorded a 7-0 singles record during the week, going 4-0 at first, 2-0 at second and 1-0 at third. She also was 6-0 while playing doubles, posting a 3-0 record at first doubles and a 3-0 mark at second.

Loane Botshoma Salina Aranda - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-6, R, Kirksville, TX/Kirksville)...helped lead the Seasiders to a 7-0 week by posting an 11-1 overall record...recorded a 5-1 singles mark that featured one win at third singles and a 4-1 production at fourth...also was 6-0 in doubles competition, going 5-0 at second and 1-0 at third...BYU-Hawaii beat three Division I teams during the week - Southeast Missouri State (7-0), Alabama State (7-0) and Austin Peay (4-0).

Laone Botshoma - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-3, R, Botswana, Africa)...led the Urban Knights to a sweep of NDNU on March 11...earned wins at second singles and at first doubles for a 2-0 week.

Kayln Bristol - BYU-Hawaii...helped the Seasiders to a 7-0 week by posting a 7-0 personal record...was 2-0 at third doubles and 4-0 at sixth singles...also had a fifth singles triumph...BYU-Hawaii beat three Division I teams during the week - Southeast Missouri State (7-0), Alabama State (7-0) and Austin Peay (4-0).

Paola Correa Fe - Academy of Art (So., 5-6, R, San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Technologico de Monterrey ITESM)...led the Urban Knights to a sweep of NDNU on March 11...earned wins at third singles and at second doubles for a 2-0 week.

Stephanie Haldeman - Grand Canyon (Sr., 5-5, Peoria, AZ/Centennial)...led the Antelopes to a 2-1 week by turning in a 4-2 record...recorded a 2-1 singles mark and a 2-1 second doubles record...picked up one win each at second and third singles...GCU picked up wins over Southwest Minnesota State and Cal State Los Angeles.

Elwen Li Boud Yuan Jia - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-9, R, Zhengzhou, China)...turned in a perfect 11-0 week that featured a 5-0 singles mark and a 6-0 first doubles record...posted a 3-0 record at second singles and picked up one win each at first and third singles.

Elwen Li Boud - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-7, R, Chengdu, China)...posted a 6-0 week for the Seasiders...BYU-Hawaii produced a 7-0 record during the stretch...earned a 3-0 record at first doubles...claimed one win at second singles and a 2-0 mark at third singles...BYU-Hawaii beat three Division I teams during the week - Southeast Missouri State (7-0), Alabama State (7-0) and Austin Peay (4-0).

Sophia Simmons - BYU-Hawaii (So., 5-9, R, Vancouver, BC, Canada)...helped Seasiders to 7-0 week by posting a 6-0 personal record...earned a 4-0 record at third doubles...picked up third and fourth singles victories as well.

Marie Vanlerenbergh Sasha Ulbrichtova - BYU-Hawaii (Fr., 5-8, R, Proprad, Slovakia)...turned in a monster week for the Seasiders...registered a 13-0 record in leading BYU-Hawaii to a 7-0 week...posted a 7-0 mark at four different singles positions - second (1-0), third (2-0), fifth (3-0) and sixth (1-0)...totaled a 6-0 doubles record for the week - 3-0 at second doubles and at third doubles.

Marie Vanlerenbergh - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-7, Hazebrouck, France/Lycee des Flanders)...led the Antelopes to a 2-1 week by turning in a 4-2 overall performance...recorded a 2-1 singles mark and a 2-1 doubles record...GCU picked up wins over Southwest Minnesota State and Cal State Los Angeles...was 2-0 at third singles...earned second and third doubles wins.
