HPU shuts out Grand Canyon, sets up rematch vs. BYU-Hawaii in title bout
LAIE, HI – Second-seed Hawai‘i Pacific rolled
through three doubles matches and a pair of singles contest in
blanking #3 Grand Canyon 5-0 and
advancing to the title match of the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific
West Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday,
April 16, in Laie, HI.
The Sea Warriors will face #1 BYU-Hawaii at 9 a.m. HT, while Grand Canyon will tackle #5 Chaminade in the battle for third place on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. HT. Times of the matches are subject to change.
HPU’s first doubles tandem of Zora Vlckova and Celina Goetti defeated VandeVelde and Cecilia Vergnet 8-2, while the second doubles squad of Aleksandra Stankovic and Ielyzaveta Rybakova beat Stephanie Haldeman and Katharina Mittag 8-2.
Third doubles went to Sandra Wikstrom and Carrie Shuler as the twosome knocked off Marie Vanlerenbergh and Kaila Knopf 9-7.
Goetti also was a singles winner, beating VandeVelde 6-0, 6-2 at third singles, while Florie Paquay captured sixth singles over Knopf 6-0, 6-0.
