Grand Canyon blanks Chaminade, takes 3rd at PacWest Championship

LAIE, HI – Third-seed Grand Canyon used three doubles victories and a pair of singles wins in shutting out #5 Chaminade 5-0 and taking third place at the 2011 Hawaiian Airlines Pacific West Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday, April 16, in Laie, HI.

Frederique Van de Velde and Cecilia Vergnet took first doubles from Yanita Arnaudova and Yuka Kondo 8-5, while Katharina Mittag and Stephanie Haldeman stole second doubles 8-2 from Natalie Phanphengdy and Jan Matsumoto.

Marie Vanlerenbergh and Kaila Knopf earned a third doubles victory by the score of 8-4, while Vanlerenbergh picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at fifth singles.

Sixth singles belonged to Chloe Cornille who knocked off Karen Chaussoy 6-0, 6-1 to clinch third place.
