BYU-Hawaii’s Hwang earns 2011-12 PacWest Women’s Scholar Athlete of the Year award

PHOENIX, Ariz. – BYU-Hawaii junior tennis player I-Hsuan (Annie) Hwang (Tainan City, Taiwan) has been selected as the 2011-12 Pacific West Conference Women's Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The PacWest announced the award on Wednesday, Aug. 29, from its media office in Phoenix, Ariz. Hwang received six of a possible nine first-place votes in winning the award after she was named the 2011-12 PacWest Women's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year on Aug. 25.

The 2012 stellar campaign for Hwang earned her First Team All-American honors at both first singles and first doubles.

Hwang also was named to the 2012 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-Star Team during the organization's awards ceremony in New York City held during the weekend of Aug. 24-26. She finished 2012 as the No. 1 women's singles player in the NCAA Division II Campbell/ITA Rankings.

The 2012 PacWest Player of the Year and 2012 PacWest Championship Tournament MVP, Hwang finished the year with a 3.76 GPA and a 17-0 first singles record. She also posted a 21-0 doubles mark that included a 20-0 first doubles record.

Hwang earned All-PacWest First Team Singles and Doubles honors in 2011 and 2012 and was the PacWest Newcomer of the Year in 2011.
