#4 Art U defeats #5 Chaminade in quarterfinals of PacWest Women’s Tennis Championship

Jenny Johansson SAN RAFAEL, CA – Fourth-seed Academy of Art collected a pair of doubles victories and claimed fourth, fifth and sixth singles en route to a 5-1 quarterfinal victory over #5 Chaminade in the 2012 Pacific West Conference Women’s Tennis Championship on Thursday, April 19, at The Marin Tennis Club in San Rafael, CA.

Jenny Johansson earned a fourth singles win by sweeping her opponent 6-2, 6-1, while Diane Phan captured fifth singles 6-0, 6-1 and partnered with Paola Correa Fe to take third doubles 8-1. Correa Fe also picked up a 6-2, 6-2 sixth singles win.

Art U’s Daniela Amelunge and Amal Ben El Hadj teamed up to take second doubles 8-4.

Chaminade’s lone victory came at first doubles when Yanita Arnaudova and Yuka Konda earned an 8-3 win.

On Friday, the Urban Knights will take on #1 BYU-Hawaii at 12:30 p.m. PDT in one of two semifinal contests, while Chaminade will battle #8 Dominican (CA) in a consolation semifinal match at 3 p.m. PDT.
