PacWest Media Day on Aug. 20 will kickoff 2009-10 athletic seasons

Preseason All-Conference Volleyball Team, Scholar Athlete awards will be announced

QUEEN CREEK, AZ - The Pacific West Conference will jumpstart the 2009-10 athletic season on Thursday, Aug. 20, with a worldwide Internet broadcast of PacWest Media Day live from San Francisco, Hawai‘i, Phoenix and St. George, Utah.

The free event will be carried live on www.redzonemedia.com beginning at 9 a.m. HT, Noon PDT, and 1 p.m. MDT. Fans of the PacWest and members of the media are encouraged to visit the site and listen to the live audio broadcast.

PacWest Media Day will feature the welcoming of Dominican University of California and Academy of Art University into the Pacific West Conference as the league's two newest programs embark on their inaugural conference schedules.

PacWest Commissioner Bob Hogue will be in San Francisco at Academy of Art University, the host institution for the event, to serve as the master of ceremonies. Representatives from Notre Dame de Namur and Dominican will join Hogue at AAU for the special event.

The PacWest Media Day also will consist of the annual Volleyball Media Day & Teleconference featuring the head coaches and players of the nine Pacific West Conference programs.

The 2009 Preseason All-Conference Volleyball Team, Preseason Player and Libero of the Year, and predicted order of finish will be announced, while the head coaches will give a brief overview of their respective teams as they prepare to battle for a conference title and a berth in the NCAA II Championship Tournament.

While the head coaches from Dominican, Academy of Art and NDNU will be at AAU for the media day, the remaining six head volleyball coaches will be heard live via teleconference and over the Internet.

The Pacific West Conference also will unveil its 2008-09 scholar athletes of the year for each of its 11 sports, as well as its overall Men's and Women's Athletes of the Year. While the official names will be announced during the PacWest Media Day, BYU-Hawaii, Chaminade, Dixie State, Grand Canyon, Hawai‘i Pacific and Notre Dame de Namur are represented by at least one scholar athlete of the year.
