Fresno Pacific women's volleyball reaches NCCAA Division I semifinals

Kathleen Anderson KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Fresno Pacific women’s volleyball team will take on Shorter University in the semifinals of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division I Championship Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. EST in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Sunbirds are making a bid for an NCCAA national title after sweeping through pool play on Nov. 29 and 30. FPU beat Oakland City and Southern Wesleyan 3-0 on Nov. 29, while the Sunbirds victimized Grace (IN) and Campbellsville 3-0 on Nov. 30.

By winning Pool A with a perfect 4-0 record, Fresno Pacific will face Pool B runner-up Shorter in the first semifinal on Saturday morning.

If the Sunbirds win, they will battle either Pool B Champion McMurray or Pool A runner-up Campbellsville for the NCCAA Division I title.

FPU’s Rupia Inck is leading the team in scoring during the national tournament. She is averaging 4.08 points per set after compiling 49 points on 42 kills, two aces, three block solos and four block assists. She is hitting .302 and also averaging 2.42 digs per set.

Kathleen Anderson is posting 3.45 points, 1.00 blocks and 2.45 kills per set while also hitting.423, while rica Adachi is averaging 7.00 assists per set and Emily Carroll is contributing 5.67 per set. Adachi also is hitting .435.

FPU also is getting contributions from Kara Mitchell who is contributing 2.88 points per set to the offense, and Hannah Butler who is averaging 6.42 digs per set to lead the defense.

The Sunbirds are currently 28-3, have won five straight matches, and have captured nine of their last 10 contests.
