BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball coach Wilfred Navalta named AVCA D-II Coach of the Year

LAIE, Hawai'i - Brigham Young University Hawaii women's volleyball coach Wilfred Navalta has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Division II Coach of the Year

The honor was announced by the AVCA on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Navalta will receive the honor at the AVCA honors luncheon in Louisville, Ky., at a future date and time to be announced.

Navalta completed his 27th season at BYU-Hawaii by leading the Seasiders to a 25-4 record and an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Semifinals.

His team went undefeated (16-0) in winning the Pacific West Conference Championship and he was honored as the PacWest Coach of the Year and the NCAA II West Region Coach of the Year.

Navalta has won eight NAIA National titles and two NCAA II National Championships during his illustrious career. He was honored as National Coach of the Year in 1999 and 1996.

Navalta won NAIA Regional Coach of the Year awards in 1996 and 1997, and he captured the Division II West Region Coach of the Year in 1998, making 2012 his second D-II Region Coach of the Year award.
