Dixie State’s Brita Jensen earns PacWest Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week award

Brita Jensen PHOENIX, Ariz. – Dixie State senior outside hitter Brita Jensen (Taylorsville, UT/Taylorsville) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week.

The conference announced the honor on Monday, Nov. 5, for matches contested Oct. 29-Nov. 4.

Jensen led the Red Storm to a 1-1 week not by posting spectacular numbers, but by producing a solid week both on offense and defense.

She ranked 17th in the PacWest for the week in hitting with a .306 mark after posting 25 kills on 72 attempts with just three errors.

She tied for ninth in kills per set with a 3.57 average and tied for 13th in scoring in the league after recording 3.79 points per set. In seven sets she totaled 26.5 points on the 25 kills, one ace and one block assist.

Defensively she was a menace for the opposition after averaging 3.57 digs per set to tie for 15th.

Ying Chun Chen (So., 5-7, S, Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Chung Shan) – BYU-Hawaii – helped the Seasiders to a 2-0 week and a PacWest title by averaging 10.00 assists per set…accumulated 90 in nine sets.

Haley Doerfler (So., 6-1, MB, Battle Ground, WA/Prarie) – Hawai'i Pacific – led Sea Warriors to a 3-0 sweep of Hawai'i Hilo on Nov. 3 – their lone match of the week…hit .385 in the match with six kills on 13 attempts with one error…also had nine blocks on three solos and six assists…averaged 3.00 blocks per set for the week to lead the PacWest…averaged 4.33 points per set to tie for seventh in the PacWest for the week…had 13.0 points.

Lindsay Elgin Lindsay Elgin (So., 6-3, MB, San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) - Academy of Art (Photo Right) – led the PacWest by hitting .457 in seven sets…had 25 kills in 46 attempts with four errors…tied for ninth in kills per set (3.57) for the week…also tied for ninth in points per set (4.21)…totaled 29.5 points on the 25 kills and nine block assists…tied for 14th in blocks per set (1.29) for the week in the league.

Rupia Inck (So., 6-1, OH, Uberaba, Brazil/Governador Campos) – Fresno Pacific – helped Sunbirds to a 2-1 week by averaging 5.08 kills and 5.75 points per set…totaled 69.0 points on 61 kills, three aces, two block solos and six block assists…ranked second in scoring and in kill average for the week in the PacWest.

Pihanakealoha Kea (Sr., 5-5, S, Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) – Hawai'i Pacific – led Sea Warriors to a 3-0 sweep of Hawai'i Hilo on Nov. 3…averaged 10.00 assists per set to tie for fourth in the PacWest for the week…totaled 30 assists over three sets.

Kelli LeClair (Fr., 5-10, OH, Yucaipa, CA/Yucaipa) – Point Loma – averaged 5.00 points and 4.50 kills per set…ranked fourth in scoring and third in kills per set for the week in the PacWest…totaled 40 points on 36 kills, three aces and two block assists…averaged 0.38 aces per set (15th for the week).

Malika O'Brien Bria Morgan (Fr., 5-11, OH, Soquel, CA/Soquel) – Hawai'i Hilo – led PacWest in kills (5.67) and points (6.00) per set despite a 0-1 week for the Vulcans…totaled 18.0 points on 17 kills and one ace in loss to HPU on Nov. 3.

Malika O'Brien Fr., 6-1, MB, Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Alta Loma) – California Baptist (Photo Left) – helped Lancers to a 1-1 record on the week by averaging 3.79 points and 1.71 blocks per set…ranked third in block average and tied for 13th in scoring for the week in the PacWest…totaled 26.5 points over seven sets with 18 kills, two aces, a block solo and 11 block assists.

Mercedes O'Neal (Fr., 6-3, M, West Jordan, UT/West Jordan) – Dixie State – led Red Storm to a 1-1 week by hitting .302 and averaging 4.17 kills and 4.58 points per set…ranked 20th in hitting, sixth in kill average and sixth in scoring for the week in the PacWest…had 25 kills on 53 attempts while committing nine errors during the week.

Jordyn Siko (So., 5-10, S, Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills) – California Baptist – helped Lancers to a 1-1 week by averaging 10.14 assists and 1.29 blocks per set…ranked second in assist average and tied for 14th in blocks per set for the week in the PacWest…totaled 71 assists during the week.

Rachael Smith (Fr., 5-10, S, Clovis, CA/Clovis) - Academy of Art – led the PacWest in assist average for the week…totaled 82 in seven sets for an 11.71 per-set mark.

Ashley Vander Tuig (FJr., 6-2, MB, Tulare, CA/Central Valley Christian) – Azusa Pacific – helped the Cougars to a 1-1 week with a solid all-around performance…hit .310 to tie for 15th in the PacWest for the week…posted 18 kills in 42 attempts with only five errors in 11 sets…ranked second in block average after posting 1.73 for the week…totaled 19 blocks on a solo and 18 assists.

Rachel Vartanian (Jr., 6-1, OPP, Sacramento, CA/Rio Americano) – Holy Names – led the Hawks to a sweep of Dominican on Nov. 2 in their lone match of the week…tied for fourth in kills per set (4.33) and ranked third in points per set (5.50) for the week in the PacWest…totaled 16.5 points on 13 kills, three block solos and a block assist during the week…averaged 1.33 blocks per set to tie for seventh during the week.
