BYU-Hawaii’s Ying Chun Chen claims first PacWest Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week

Ying Chun Chen PHOENIX, Ariz. – BYU-Hawaii sophomore setter Ying Chun Chen (Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Chung Shan) has been selected the first Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for 2012.

The conference announced the honor on Tuesday, Sept. 11, for the first week of matches contested Aug. 31-Sept. 2.

Chen helped the Seasiders to a 2-2 record to start the season by leading the PacWest in assist average for the week. She averaged 11.50 assists per set during 14 contests.

Chen also ranked second in total assists for the week with 161, tied for first in service aces for the week with nine, and ranked second in service aces per set for the week with a 0.64 average.

She stood 15th in digs per set (3.29) after totaling 46 during the opening weekend of competition, and she ranked second in service aces for the week.

Ingrid Carmona Kathleen Anderson (Jr., 6-1, MB, Lemoore, CA/Lemoore) - Fresno Pacific – led the PacWest in block average during the opening week of the season…paced the Sunbirds to a 3-1 start…averaged 1.71 blocks per set after totaling 29 in 17 sets…had five block solos and 24 block assists…led the league in total blocks for the week as well…ranked 14th in hitting for the week in the PacWest…posted a .247 hitting mark after recording 33 kills in 85 attempts with 12 errors.

Ingrid Carmona (Sr., 5-11, OH, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Universidad APEC) – California Baptist – totaled 52.5 points and averaged 4.77 points per set during the opening week of the season…led Lancers to a 2-1 start…ranked second in scoring average for the week…had 45 kills, five aces, a block solo and three block assists in 11 sets.

Shih Ting Chen (So., 5-10, OH/MB, Yunlin, Taiwan/Chung Shan) – BYU-Hawaii - led the PacWest in scoring for the week with a 5.57 per-set average…totaled 78 points on 68 kills, eight aces and four block assists in 14 sets…led the PacWest in kills per set for the week (4.86)…also ranked fourth for the week in service aces per set (0.57)…posted 3.14 digs per set to rank 17th…hit .270 after converting 68 kills on 178 attempts… Seasiders 2-2 during the opening week.

Haley Doerfler Haley Doerfler (So., 6-1, MB, Battle Ground, WA/Prarie) – Hawai'i Pacific - ranked second in hitting for the week in the PacWest after posting a .349 mark…recorded 31 kills with just nine errors in 63 attempts…tied for eighth in the league in blocks per set (1.00)…totaled 14 blocks all on block assists…led Sea Warriors to 3-1 record.

Nicole Eiler (Sr., 5-7, L, Scottsdale, AZ /Saguaro) – Point Loma - ranked second in total digs (90) and in digs per set (5.62) during the opening week of the 2012 campaign.

Lauren Hagemeyer (Sr., 6-1, OH, Ridgway, CO/Ridgway) – BYU-Hawaii – ranked ninth in points per set (4.07), fifth in kills per set (3.57) and seventh in hitting average (.281) in the PacWest during the opening week of the 2012 campaign…Seasiders posted a 2-2 mark…totaled 57 points on 50 kills and 14 block assists over 14 sets during the week…tied for eighth in blocks per set (1.00).

Natalie Hamill (Sr., 5-7, S, Laguna Niguel, CA/Santa Margarita) – Point Loma - ranked third in assist average (10.17) for the week in the PacWest…ranked fifth in total assists after recording 122 in 12 sets.

Jackie Landers (Jr., 5-11, OH, Torrance, CA/South) – Azusa Pacific – ranked fourth in kills per set (4.00) and fourth in points kills per set (4.25) during the opening week of the season…totaled 68 points on 64 kills, two aces, a block solo and two block assists…ranked 13th in the PacWest during the week with a .256 hitting average…Cougars began season 4-0.

Kristen Preach Delaney McCraney (So., 6-1, RS, Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) – Point Loma - ranked third in scoring for the week in the PacWest…averaged 4.75 points per set while totaling 76 points in 16 sets during the opening week…amassed a league-high 71 kills during the week and ranked second in kills per set (4.44)…also had three aces and four block assists…ranked 12th in hitting for the week (.257)…PLNU posted a 1-3 mark.

Kristen Preach (Sr., 5-10, S, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) – Grand Canyon – led Antelopes to a 4-0 start on the season…ranked second in assist average for the week with a 10.56 mark…led the league in total assists with 169 in 16 sets…ranked fifth in hitting with a .286 average…had 23 kills in 56 attempts with just five errors over 16 sets during the opening week of the season.

Rupia Inck (So., 6-1, OH, Uberaba, Brazil/Governador Campos) – Fresno Pacific – totaled 69.5 points on 59 kills, three aces and 15 block assists during a 3-1 week for the Sunbirds…ranked seventh in points per set (4.09) and second in total points for the week in the PacWest…also ranked sixth in kills per set (3.47) and fourth in total kills for the week.

Taylor Parker (Jr., 6-0, S, San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) – California Baptist – averaged 10.09 assists per set after totaling 111 in 11 sets…ranked fourth in assist averaged and seventh in totals assists for the week in the PacWest…Lancers posted a 2-1 start to the 2012 campaign.

Taylor Suchy Mackenzie Phelps (So., 5-10, L, Prescott, AZ/Prescott) - Grand Canyon – topped the PacWest in digs per set during the opening week…averaged 5.75 digs over 16 sets…also led the league in total digs with 92…helped GCU to a 4-0 start.

Joy Reinke (Fr., 5-10, OH, Vista, CA/Tri City Christian) – Azusa Pacific – averaged 4.09 points per set during the opening week of the season to rank sixth in the league…totaled 65.5 points on 54 kills, eight service aces and seven block assists…point total ranked fifth for the week…averaged 3.38 kills per set to rank ninth and hit .247 to stand 15th in hitting percentage for the week…accumulated the 54 kills in 150 attempts with just 17 errors…Cougars kicked off season with a 3-1 record.

Taylor Suchy (Fr., 5-11, OH, Wilomar, CA/Murrieta Valley) - Academy of Art – ranked fifth in points per set (4.15) and third in aces per set (0.62) for the week in the PacWest…Urban Knights finished 2-2 on the week…totaled 54 points on 44 kills, eight aces, one block solo and two block assists…ranked eighth in kills per set (3.38).
