BYU-Hawaii’s Shih Ting Chen named PacWest Women’s Volleyball Player of Week

Shih Ting Chen PHOENIX, Ariz. – BYU-Hawaii sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Shih Ting Chen (Yunlin, Taiwan/Chung Shan) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week for 2012.

The conference announced the honor on Sunday, Oct. 7, for matches contested Sept. 24-30.

Chen earns the honor for the second time this season after leading the Seasiders to a 2-0 week. She led the PacWest in scoring after averaging 41.5 points per set over six sets.

She also topped the PacWest in hitting percentage (.547) and in kills per set (6.67).

Chen totaled 40 kills in 64 attempts and committed just five errors. She also compiled 4.15 points over the two Seasider victories.

Ingrid Carmona Ingrid Carmona (Sr., 5-11, OH, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Universidad APEC) – California Baptist – totaled 46 points and averaged 5.75 points per set during a 2-0 week for the Lancers…amassed 39 kills, four aces, two block solos and two block assists…ranked fourth in points and kills (4.88) per set for the week in the PacWest…tied for sixth in aces per set (0.50) for the week…hit .344 with 39 kills in 90 attempts and eight errors…ranked 12th for the week in hitting.

Ying Chun Chen (So., 5-7, S, Kaohsiung, Taiwan/Chung Shan) – BYU-Hawaii - led the PacWest in assists per set (14.00) for the week…totaled 84 assists in six sets during a 2-0 week for the Seasiders.

Nicole Eiler (Sr., 5-7, L, Scottsdale, AZ /Saguaro) – Point Loma – led the PacWest in digs per set (7.38) despite a 0-2 week for the Sea Lions…totaled 59 digs in eight sets.

Lindsay Elgin (So., 6-3, MB, San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) - Academy of Art – ranked 10th in points per set (4.30), ninth in kills per set (4.00) and second in hitting (.545) in the PacWest for the week…Urban Knights lost in five sets to Hawai'i Hilo on Sept. 28 – their lone match of the week.

Lauren Hagemeyer (Sr., 6-1, OH, Ridgway, CO/Ridgway) – BYU-Hawaii – led Seasiders to a 2-0 week…ranked fifth in points per set (5.00), tied for seventh in kills per set (4.17), and ranked third in hitting percentage (.523) in the PacWest during the week…totaled 30 points on 25 kills, three block solos and four block assists…ranked seventh in blocks per set (1.17) for the week…recorded the 25 kills on 44 attempts with just two errors.

Natalie Hamill (Sr., 5-7, S, Laguna Niguel, CA/Santa Margarita) – Point Loma - averaged 11.00 assists per set despite a 0-2 week for the Sea Lions…tied for second in assists per set for the week in the PacWest…totaled 88 assists in eight sets. 

Kristen Preach Rupia Inck (So., 6-1, OH, Uberaba, Brazil/Governador Campos) – Fresno Pacific – led Sunbirds to a win over Dominican by hitting .500, averaging 5.33 kills per set, and posting a 5.83 points-per-set average…ranked third in kill average, fourth in hitting and third in scoring for the week in the PacWest.

Jennifer Jasper (Sr., 6-1, MB, San Jose, CA/Prospect) – Notre Dame de Namur - ranked seventh in scoring for the week in the PacWest…averaged 4.92 points per set after totaling 29.5 on 20 kills, two aces, three block solos and nine block assists…led the PacWest in blocks per set (2.00) for the week…also averaged 0.33 aces and 3.33 kills per set.

Jackie Landers (Jr., 5-11, OH, Torrance, CA/South) – Azusa Pacific – led the Cougars to a 1-1 week by averaging 4.86 points per set…totaled 34.0 points on 34 kills…ranked eighth in scoring average, fifth in kills per set (4.86) and 13th in hitting (.320) for the week in the conference.

Bria Morgan (Fr., 5-11, OH, Soquel, CA/Soquel) – Hawai'i Hilo – led PacWest in total points (99.5)…ranked second in points per set (6.22) and kills per set (5.75) for the week…point total comprised of 92 kills, six aces and three block assists…led Vulcans to a 3-1 week.

Malika O'Brien Fr., 6-1, MB, Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Alta Loma) – California Baptist – helped Lancers to a 2-0 record on the week by hitting .486 in eight sets…posted 17 kills in 35 attempts with no errors.

Taylor Parker (Jr., 6-0, S, San Diego, CA/Scripps Ranch) – California Baptist – averaged 11.00 assists per set after totaling 88 in five sets…tied for second in assist average for the week in the PacWest…Lancers posted a 2-0 week.

Kristen Preach (Sr., 5-10, S, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) – Grand Canyon – averaged 9.91 assists per set in a 2-1 week for the Antelopes…ranked fifth in assists per set in the PacWest…totaled 109 in 11 sets.

Rachael Smith (Fr., 5-10, S, Clovis, CA/Clovis) - Academy of Art – averaged 10.20 assists per set in lone match of the week – a 3-2 loss for the Urban Knights against Hawai'i Hilo on Sept. 28…totaled 51 assists in the contest…ranked fourth for the week in assist average in the PacWest.

Patty Snel (Fr., 5-11, OH, Soquel, CA/Soquel) – Hawai'i Hilo – averaged 5.19 digs per set in a 3-1 week for the Vulcans…totaled a league-high 83 digs over four matches…also hit .271, recording 45 kills in 129 attempts with 10 errors.
