BYU-Hawaii’s Shih Ting Chen claims PacWest Women’s Volleyball Player of Week honor

Shih Ting Chen PHOENIX, Ariz. –BYU-Hawaii sophomore outside hitter/middle blocker Shih Ting Chen (Yunlin, Taiwan/Chung Shan) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week.

The conference announced the honor on Wednesday, Oct. 31, for matches contested Oct. 22-28.

Chen led the Seasiders to a 4-0 week and a berth in the NCAA II post-season after BYU-Hawaii secured the automatic qualifier.

She led the PacWest in hitting percentage with a .511 mark after compiling 52 kills on 88 attempts with just seven errors.

She also ranked third in scoring for the week in the PacWest after producing 4.71 points per set, while she was third in kills per set with a 4.33 mark.

Chen totaled 56.5 points during the week on 52 kills, a trio of aces and block assists.

Haley Doerfler (So., 6-1, MB, Battle Ground, WA/Prarie) – Hawai‘i Pacific – led Sea Warriors to a 4-1 week by hitting .494…ranked second in the conference…totaled 49 kills in 79 attempts with 10 miscues…ranked 15th in kills per set (2.72)…ranked 14th in scoring after recording 3.31 points per set…totaled 59.5 points on the 49 kills, ace, four block solos and 11 block assists.

Nicole Eiler (Sr., 5-7, L, Scottsdale, AZ /Saguaro) – Point Loma – led the PacWest in digs per set (6.44) in a 1-1 week for the Sea Lions…totaled 58 digs in nine sets….ranked third in aces per set (0.56)…had five aces during the week.

Lauren Hagemeyer (Sr., 6-1, OH, Ridgway, CO/Ridgway) – BYU-Hawaii – ranked third in hitting percentage (.418), 11th in points per set (3.54) and ninth in kills per set (3.17) after leading BYU-Hawaii to a 4-0 week…the Seasiders swept all four matches 3-0…totaled 42.5 points on 38 kills and nine block assists…had just 10 errors in 67 chances while compiling the .418 hitting percentage.

Karah Mitchell Natalie Hamill (Sr., 5-7, S, Laguna Niguel, CA/Santa Margarita) – Point Loma – averaged 10.44 assists and 0.22 aces per set during a 1-1 week for the Sea Lions…totaled 94 assists over the two matches…ranked third in assist average for the week in the PacWest.

Rupia Inck (So., 6-1, OH, Uberaba, Brazil/Governador Campos) – Fresno Pacific – helped Sunbirds to a 2-0 week by hitting .281 and averaging 4.50 kills and 5.00 points per set…ranked 16th in hitting, second in kill average, and second in points per set for the week in the PacWest…totaled 30.0 points on 27 kills, an ace, a block solo and two block assists.

Jackie Landers (Jr., 5-11, OH, Torrance, CA/South) – Azusa Pacific – led Cougars to a 2-0 week by averaging 4.62 kills and 5.19 points per set…led the PacWest in both categories for the week…also solid on defense by averaging 3.38 digs per set…tied for 14th for the week…totaled 41.5 points on 37 kills, two aces, a block solo and three block assists.

Karah Mitchell (So., 5-10, OH, Clovis, CA/Clovis) – Fresno Pacific – helped push the Sunbirds to a 2-0 week by ranking fifth in hitting (.385) and tying for fourth in kills per set (4.00)…had 20 kills with five errors in 39 attempts…totaled 21 points on 20 kills and an ace over five sets…ranked fifth in scoring (4.20 points per set) for the week in the league.

Amanda Moriarty (Fr., 5-10, OH, Santa Barbara, CA/Doe Pueblos) – Hawai‘i Pacific – led Sea Warriors to a 4-1 week by averaging 3.28 kills, 3.67 points and 3.56 digs per set…ranked eighth in kills per set, ninth in scoring and 13th in digs per set for the week in the PacWest…totaled 66 points on 59 kills, four aces, a block solo and four block assists.

Mackenzie Phelps (So., 5-10, L, Prescott, AZ/Prescott) - Grand Canyon – ranked third in the PacWest in digs per set (6.08) during a 2-1 week for the Antelopes….totaled 79 digs in 13 sets.

Kristen Preach Kristen Preach (Sr., 5-10, S, Phoenix, AZ/Xavier Prep) – Grand Canyon – averaged 10.54 assists per set while hitting .302 during a 2-1 week for the Antelopes…ranked 10th in hitting for the week in the conference after posting 16 kills on 43 attempts with just three errors…totaled 137 assists during the week…ranked second in assist average during the week in the league…also ranked fourth in aces per set (0.54) during the week after totaling 7 in 13 sets…averaged 2.92 digs per set to stand 20th for the week in the PacWest.

Jordyn Siko (So., 5-10, S, Chino Hills, CA/Chino Hills) – California Baptist – helped Lancers to a 1-1 week with an all-around performance…ranked seventh in assist average after posting an 8.75 per-set mark…totaled 70 in eight sets…also tied for 14th in digs per set (3.38)…had 27 digs during the week…averaged 1.00 blocks per set to tie for eighth for the week…totaled eight blocks on two solos and six assists.
