Dixie State junior Rachel Young chosen first PacWest Women’s XC Runner of Week for 2011

PHOENIX, AZ - Dixie State junior Rachel Young (Holliday, UT/Olympus) has been chosen the first Pacific West Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week of 2011.

The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Sept. 5, for races contested on Sept. 3.

Young finished 10th in the predominantly Division I George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.

She posted a time of 18:12.3 on the 5K course to help the Red Storm to a fifth-place finish. Young was the top runner from non-Division I schools.

PacWest Women’s Cross Country Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Katherine Buxton - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-4, Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg)...was fourth at the 2011 Hawai‘i Pacific Invite on Sept. 3...covered the 5K course in 18:33...ranked first among BYU-Hawaii runners and PacWest participants...led Seasiders to a second-place team finish.

Ashlee Cervantes - California Baptist (So., 5-3, Beaumont, CA/Beaumont)... recorded a time of 22:56.7 on the 6K course to take seventh among four-year competitors at the 2011 Cal State Fullerton Season Opener...Lancers finished sixth among four-year schools.

Hannah Fishback - Grand Canyon (Fr., 5-3, Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe)... placed 30th overall and third among Antelope entries at the 2011 George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University on Sept. 3...recorded a time of 21:29.9 on the 5K course.

Lacey Krout - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 5-3, Preston, ID/Preston)...finished fifth at the 2011 Hawai‘i Pacific Invite on Sept. 3...covered 5K course in 18:40...ranked second among BYU-Hawaii runners and PacWest participants...led BYU-Hawaii to a second-place team finish.

Andrea Martin - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 5-3, Corona, CA)...finished 10th at the 2011 Hawai‘i Pacific Invite on Sept. 3...completed the 5K course in 19:35...ranked third among BYU-Hawaii runners and PacWest participants...helped Seasiders to a second-place team finish.

Kristen Sanzari - Academy of Art (Jr., 5-9, Santa Rosa, CA/Maria Carillo)... placed 32nd at the 2011 University of San Francisco Invite on Sept. 3...registered a mark of 19:47 on the 5K course.

Justine Peterson - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-6, Phoenix, AZ/Ironwood)...finished first among GCU runners and 26th overall at the 2011 George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University on Sept. 3...turned in a time of 20:52.6 on the 5K course.

Skyler Tarver - Dixie State (So., 5-4, Phelan, CA/Serrano)...finished second among Dixie State runners and 25th overall at the 2011 George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University on Sept. 3...posted a time of 20:49.2 on the 5K course...event featured predominantly Division I runners.

Stacey Toth - Academy of Art (Sr., 5-6, Las Vegas, NV/Shadow Ridge)...finished 42nd at the 2011 University of San Francisco Invite on Sept. 3...posted a mark of 20:22 on the 5K course.

Julia Wild - Grand Canyon (Jr., 5-4, Mesa, AZ/Red Mountain)...finished second among GCU runners and 28th overall at the 2011 George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University on Sept. 3...rushed in with a time of 21:12.1 on the 5K course.
