PHOENIX, Ariz. – Academy of Art senior Jenny Bergren (Inglewood, CA/Beverly Hills) has been selected the inaugural Pacific West Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for 2012.

The conference announced the honor on Tuesday, Sept. 18, for races held Aug. 31-Sept. 2 during the opening week of the season.

Bergren finished fifth in a field of more than 180 runners at the 2012 University of San Francisco Invitational on Sept. 1.

The 5K race was held at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Bergren posted a time of 17:48.50 in a field of predominantly Division I runners, registering the top time among Academy of Art entries and all non-Division I runners

She led Art U to an eighth-place finish in a field of 17 teams.
